Car show

I have a flyer for a car show at the Half Moon Bay Airport. It's called Pacific Coast Dream Machines. "All vehicles welcome" it says. Thinking of going but don't want to go alone. If we could get a couple of trucks together it would be fun. Let me know what you think.

Date: April 29th
Time: 10:00 - 4:00
Location: Half Moon Bay Airport.
Entry fee: $30.00 "per machine" $35.00 after April 15th.

Re: Car show

Hey gang lets pull together and work in a spring gathering/car show at this event. I've done this before with Tom Dowd back in 2000. It was a large show with just about anything you could want to see on display. Lots of muscle cars from the sixties right on up to present day machines. Also big for the over 60 crowd to show off their nice hot rod rides from the 40,'s 50's. Heck in 2000 there was even on display of one of the Batmobiles made for the original TV series which I grew up with since I'm so much older than most of you in the bay area.

Here is the website for the event:

http://www.miramarevents.com/dreammachines/index.html

I haven't yet seen the flyer for this years event. But in 2000 they even had tractor pull competitions going on in a dirt portion of the parking area. As well as the biggest collection of working vintage steam engines I've ever seen in once place.

Oh one other demonstration which took place in 2000. Because this event as in past years was also a air show fly-in. There was a fly-by of a C5 Galaxy cargo plane from Beale Air Force Base doing a low speed pass which left me amazed that enough lift could be generated to keep that BIG bird in the air while moving that slow. Also a much faster pass demonstrating the manuverability it also had despite its large size. Also there was a F-117A Stealth Bomber which flew by a couple times.

Then of course there are static displays of many vintage war planes from WWII including regular favorites that run annually at the Reno Air Races. My favorite is a beautifully restored P-51 Mustang flown by Watsonville pilot, Dan Martin flying his plane named the Ridge Runner II. A beautiful example of American fighter planes.

A little of everything in one show. The only uncertain variable this weekend can be the weather. Old man winter can still make his presence known, so take that into consideration. But it didn't rain on Tom and I in 2000. Bring along a folding canopy for when if it does rain and when it stops, shammy down the Sy or Ty and your back in show trim.

The real trick to us all parking together is being there when the gates open. As Don says they usually will make an effort to park groups together. But if you are late you could be parked from the group as far away as a quarter mile like I was in 2000. When vehicles started to leave during the mid afternoon as space opened I moved over near Tom for the rest of the day. The big key to being together at this event is being there so we can all go in together.

Hope to see a few trucks at this event along with Don and I?

Re: Car show

Thinking of doing the meet there too. Its about the time I wanted to do it. Give us a chance to show off our cars, BS and check out some cool show stuff. I will be going even if my truck is not running. I will be staying up there too. (have friends there). So yes Don, I am in.

Re: Car show

gjp, great with you we have four trucks making this show now. Tom says he'll bring the NorCal Terror Ty for what might be its last show if he sells it sometime soon? He is also thinking of doing the Spring Goodguys show (March 24 & 25th) to see what interest can be generated by showing it there.

As far as the Half Moon Bay show is concerned. We all must enter the gates at the same time to be able to park together. So we are planning to hookup some place outside the gate prior to heading in. The gates open at 7am, so I will be there between 6:30 and 6:45am. I suggest we meet some where along the road leading to the airport entrance. I'm not working these days (got laid off) so I'm planning on driving over there to scope out a meeting place and I'll report back to everyone with what I come up with.

Stay tuned and really glad you will be joining us. This is a great event. I have always meant to do this again since it was a blast back in 2000.

Re: Car show

Hi again gang. I just sent a post to Don about my findings for a meeting place before we all head over to the airport entrance together. As a reminder we must come in together in order to have any chance of parking together. Gate opens at 7am and I will be at the meeting place I've picked out between 6:30am and 6:45am. The spot I've scoped out is in a large parking lot behind a resturant which is right off highway 1 as you approach the airport area heading north on highway 1 from Half Moon Bay. It is a few miles north of HMB and I didn't think to get an actual miles reading on my odometer. But I'm heading over there again next week and will get this info for everyone and I'll post it here, so check back in a few days.

My plan is to send via email some still digital photo's my Dad took through my Sy's windshield as we approached this resturant and traffic light controlled intersection on highway 1.

I had my Dad take pics of the resturants large sign which can be seen on your right as you approach from the south on highway 1. Also the street sign of the cross street where you will turn off highway 1.

If I can figure out how to post photo's to this forum (if it is possible to do so?) I'll post them in my next post. Otherwise if you are planning to make this event or maybe thinking about it? Email me at mtb9153@comcast.net and I'll give you the scoop on how to get there.

Once again you MUST! be at the meeting place prior to 6:45am so we can all drive over together. I can't emphasize enough that this is a REALLY BIG car show each year. There is no way to park together unless we drive in together at the same time. Don't think you can come later and park near the group? Believe me it isn't going to happen. In 2000 when Tom and I did this show, he took a different gate than I did and once I got in airport area, I was forced to park at the opposite end of the airport than he was. I was roughly 3/4 of a mile north of where he was parked. The officials at this event will not let you move your vehicle once you park and the spectators start walking around looking at entries. The asiles usually are not wide enough to allow someone to drive VEEEERY SLOWLY among the spectators and work your way to another parking space if you first know there is one before hand. Plus chances are if you do manage to reach it? It will be already taken by someone else trying to better their position. Believe me I speak from experience.

Check back here towards the end of the week for more info. Or email directly for one on one info. But if I can post pics on the forum, I prefer to do it that way. Less work and headache for me and I only have to post it once.

Hope to see at least a half dozen trucks next month on the 29th?

God Bless,

Re: Car show

Bay Area owners I have prepared a Microsoft Word file with detailed google maps and driving instructions to the Half Moon Bay car show on April 29th. I have already given a copy to Don and he is set to be there.

For those of you who are planning to show your trucks with us and want a copy of the Word file I've created. Contact me at mtb9153@comcast.net and I'll send you the file off line from this forum since I guess I can not link it from here?

Thanks for your interest in this event, look forward to seeing you all next month.

Re: Car show

Sorry gang, I'll be here on Saturday and don't think I'll be able to do two in one weekend, unless I make tracks back thru the Bay Area. I won this....

Re: Car show

PONYKLR I was debating on the Half Moon bay and the Central Valley Classic show too. The CVC Car show is about 4 hours closer of a drive for me. What are you putting in??

Re: Car show

PONYKLR and EcSy#2671 thanks for ringing in guys and for considering joining us at HMB. I can understand your reasons for not making it. Long run for just a car show and one that doesn't even give out awards. And for a good reason too, this is about the biggest car show/air show I've ever seen so theres no way they could judge this many entries and afford trophy's for all the classes of vehicles which show each year. Maybe you guys can make our annual bay area Summer party usually in the June, July timeframe? Providing Tom Dowd wants to do it another year that is?

Later...

Have to see how the funds hold out. Headin' to Portland tom. to pick up wheels, going to GTO gathering in Concord next wk. Plus need to secure another driver for the 28th-29th wkend!
