Hey guys, new to the site and im swapping an AWD setup into my 96 blazer. Now i know the front differentials on the sy/ty's are the same as the bravada ones, I was just wondering, since i have a bravada front differential, what you guys do to strengthen it up (if anything).

Thanks!

well a custom propshaft is going to be needed anyways. T-56 is a bit longer than a 4l60e

thanks :D

I deburr and polish the differential case to reduce the chances of a crack forming. I also deburr the gears, but that is about all that you can do. Be sure that all parts are in very good condition. Any wear or rust can cause weak spots. You could go with some high tech cryogenic treatment on some of the high stress parts. I built one for some guys in Poland who have the quickest car in Poland and so far it is holding up fine. I have to build another one for them this month for an even quicker car with twin turbos and around 1200 HP. We'll see how it does.

cool, how much do you charge for the polish / deburr of the casing and the gears? The truck is going to be receiving a 350/383 so Im just looking for extra insurance JUST IN CASE :rotf:

Even the strongest 383's will have a hard time breaking a good condition front diff. These trucks make 500ft-lbs with minor mods. Get a stock Bravada/Sy/Ty front diff toss it in there, and call it good. I personally wouldn't spend the cash on anything special for any less than a full-out effort on that truck. Especially if there are other areas that you need to get finished before it runs, that cash can go to more usefull items in the build.

I've also seen a 100% stock truck eat two of them in as many months, so its critical to get a good one, and take care of it once it's in there.

I agree. I don't think a 383 is going to break it unles you turbocharge it or use a large nitrous oxide kit on it. Most of these trucks run into the 9s with stock front differentials. The 7.2 IFS is a pain to rebuild.
