Built 700r4

Hello everyone,

I'm looking to get my tranny either built, or replaced with a built one, and was wondering how a built tranny affects the trucks driveability?

I'm looking at RPM's right now, but am keeping my options open.

My Ty is pretty much a daily driver, never see's a track, and I never boost launched(OK, maybe once a year or so). I guess I just want a bullet proof tranny for my application...better safe than sorry type thing,

and was wondering if I can still drive it day to day without feeling like I got a tank tranny in there.

If I had the money, I would go for the 4l80e, but the extra 3k or so I would be spending would buy alot of other stuff considering I pretty much drive like a grandpa with the occational kid coming out in him.

You most likely will be very happy for a long time with a properly built 700r4 given your driving habits. I've been running the same Rossler-built 700 in my low 10 sec truck since the fall of 2003 with no issues. Not many miles but plenty of stress on my drivetrain. Finding a builder who understands our application and builds a tranny accordingly is the key. Check with vendors on this board or contact Rossler transmissions and tell them what you want.

I guess I didn't answer your question. Driveability should not be affected with a built transmission. Trucks I have owned with a stock transmission shift harder under normal driving conditions than my Rossler trans does. As far as RPM, I am gathering your truck is mainly stock. I wouldn't suggest changing the shift points under these conditions and I would probably stick with the stock TC. Shifting at higher RPM will only push your motor further outside its useful power curve and the stock TC gives plenty of stall for the stock turbo.

From the info you posted I would follow Mark's advice.

You should be fine if your honest with your driving habits.

If you need to explain to a shop what a syty is run fast.

Thanks everyone,

Yeah, truck is all stock except for a k&n and dynomax...

The truck has almost 50k miles on it, and I found a little pice of metal on the magnet(about 1/2"x2mm), so i figure it might go out soon(don't really know that much about trannies)...it looks like part of a snap ring.

...does anyone know of a shop in the Sacramento area that would know what they were doing?
