Neutral drops blow things up. Every SyTySGT was equipped with an automatic, no questions asked.

The correct way to do a boost launch involves the following steps. **BE WARNED** doing so puts tremendous strain on the torque convertor and the entire drivetrain when done properly. Myself and the board cannot be held liable for damage to your truck if something breaks

1. Place truck in neutral, engine and trans warmed up. Hold brake pedal with left foot and rev the gas a few times. Press as hard as possible on the brake, it will sink as engine vacuum increases the assist.

2. WAIT FOR THE RPMS TO DROP, then place the truck in 3. While still holding the brake, increase the throttle until you see positive boost on your gauge (an aftermarket is best ).

3. Once the boost is at a suitable level (~5-10 lbs depending on truck, rear wheelspin will dictate this), let off the brake while simultaneously going wide open.

You want to do the spool-up and launch as quickly as possible, brake torquing puts tremendous heat into the converter and trans.

damnit you Typhoon nuts on here are ruining my pocketbook with all these facts and videos that are burning at me to keep my Typhoon and turn it into a money pit.....

That reminds me........my poor truck!

It's probably seen a boost launch or two everytime I've driven it since 2003, maybe not quite but close ;) it rarely get's driven but at least it puts out when I do put it out of the garage:lol:

Mine is the same way every time it gets driven it gets driven hard luckily for the truck it's not that often:tup:

Is this better than just leaving it in drive and holding the brakes while revving and then let off the brake?

edit: By better I mean faster launch.

To help get you posioned...below are a couple of my videos of my trucks launching, etc. A SyTy ownership is a sickness. Please warn those that are near and dear to you ahead of time. They will never totally understand, but it helps a little if forewarned.

I hate looking at it everytime I walk by it. Just sitting there rotting away. Every once in a while a customer will notice it and say "hey, that's not a real Typhoon is it?" and I will feel bad that it is such a poor example of one. I still haven't been able to source out what a new motor would cost. Of course if I was to build a new motor, I would take the time to make it a little better while I was in there and so the cycle would start....

Read up on here about newer Vortec engines. Better heads, and can be picked up relatively cheap at a wrecking yard. Mod the lower intake for the different bolt pattern, and be easy on the boost. One way to get it back on the road while you work on the original engine.

Is there a sticky for this mod? The 4.3 Vortecs came from 1994 into the 2000's I think, does it matter which one? Those engines are everywhere.
