biggest air to air

does anyone know what is the biggest IC core that will fit in the stock location. I have a kenne bell unit and was wondering what the biggest core I could order that would fit in the space and maybe even get everything to hook up. I am needing one that is good for at least 800 horsepower or more. I hear the dequick dual units leave a lot to be desired, don't fit that well, and are too much buck for the bang. I still have stock fan

nolan...you out there???

do you have any idea tony???

there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with jerrys IC. I like it. I'm just trying to save a few bucks and replace the core instead of all the plumbing and fans. I actually may use it. we're just not sure if it's enough for the horsepower I'm making on all motor and no nitrous. with the amount of boost I'm running, 28 pounds, I'm building a little too much heat. there's a bunch more left in this motor. In fact, we already broke the 10.43 by a bunch. 10.2???. just trying to hold off posting exactly what it was and was hoping that I could run something really low in st louis if it isn't too hot and let everyone there see. thought that might be fun if it got lowered at the nats. maybe someone will run even faster by then. We turned the boost down a little and richened up last week and dialed at 10.39 and ran 10.39 at a meet in ohio. all we want to do is bring the temps down so I can tune even closer and not have to worry about knock. not planning to make any more power in the motor. how do you like jerrys IC? that's what you're running isn't it?

you are right though. I am a friend of Jerrys. I think they did a great job on my heads and I haven't had any problems with leaks or gaskets or anything. ssure hope it stays that way with the boost. so do you know what the biggest IC core I can fit in is?

PS: "hey jer, if you read this how bout giving me a free intercooler for a sponsorship since we're "best buddies?"

Are you putting that air to air in the location where the lower heat exchanger would be?
Would a Greddy, Blitz, or Nismo fit in that spot?
I don't know how much one would be without piping. I know my friends Supra put down over 800rwhp with a large greddy IC, and there a plenty of Skylines putting down good hp with the Nismo units.
It may not work at all but just a thought.

Les, at first i did the KB frontmounted and removed the oil and the tranny coolers down there
I ordered an A2A that look like the KB unit but is 22 x 15, 75mm tube on top & 90mm out
We need more flow area 8)

I like jerry's IC just wish I'd known he doesnt actually make them before I'd bought it. :x but thats another story. no complaints really. it's good on the street and been awesome for me on the track. I believe it's about the biggest thing you'll fit in the stock location.

i have pictures of the mccoy core beside the KB core. there is roughly a %100 increase in core volume going the mccoy unit. wanna take a guess which one flows better? lol

you are going way too fast for a KB core. i imagine you are getting crazy pressure drop. also, the biggest problem with the KB intercooler is the piping. trying to salvage it doesnt make any sense whatsoever. you can ask mark larson..... the KB intercooler works great on smaller turbos, but as soon as you start flowing big air, the temps go thru the roof. i was seeing 170deg at a measily 18psi with a PT52.

the other really cool thing about the mccoy unit is how much space you gain by removing the fan shrouds. really nice.

click on my sig for some pics.

Ahh I see the pipes weren't painted red they were glowing red

That sucks to hear as I have a KB I will use with the PTE 60. What was the outside temp when you hit 170 at 18psi?

I can't see many options for larger and still keep the AC. Maybe you Yanks can remove the AC but not those of down south. Hopefully alky injection will be the KB units bestest friend.

when my kb was put on there weren't as many choices as there are now. thanks rue for you input. facts are always helpful. jerrys is starting to look the best bet for keepin it in the stock spot.

I'll make a call tomorrow and say

"jerry, this is your best buddy Les. how bout a free IC? jerry...you there...hey jer...you still there...hey herry, where did ya go...

Do you have to lose the AC to use the mccoy A/A?

I don't think you get rid of it for the McCoy A2A.

I was referring to something larger that would fit behind the grill in place of the AC condenser.

Honestly, you need to build something custom. Neither my ic, mccoys ic, or dequicks ic is suitable for your truck. You are to the point where an off the shelf production intercooler kit is not what you need.

You want something like this modified for single turbo (will go in front of the radiator with some minor trimming):

It depends on if you want A/C or not. Being that I have winter for like 8 months of the year I do not mind 4 months of heat and said to hell with AC. My core is a Spearco 24x13x3.5 part number 2-205. Fabrication is required!!!

Hey Les ,,I hear ya on the free intercooler,,Ha Ha,,wish I could afford to do this stuff for free,,Too many paychecks to write...Lookin at your intake temps...You need one bad though.!!! Lots of air flowin through that motor of yours!! I think ours could drop you a nother tenth our two ...I have a huge core here to do a custom setup with ...It came with a piggy back radiator that wasn't worth a crap though..I would take it off and build a custom one ...It was very expensive ,,but supposed to be good for 1000 plus hp.,,Oh and yea we don't build everthing we sell here..Since counting our motorcycle stuff we sell thousands of items....

What was that comment for ...?? I have been hearing from my freinds that someone is sending private e-mails and making comments about our products in an effort to discredit our company.....I say let our customers trucks do the talking ,,What is everyones ets.??? Whose stuff are they running??? I hear this same guys truck is down right now ..something about looseing head gaskets at 18 lbs of boost,,,HMMMMMMMMMM!!

Oh well we will keep on doing our thing,,Going Fast!!! ,,Jerry

Nolan that is a Intercooler. Very nice. To bad it requires AC removal. Aty some point my personal IAT is more important that the trucks.

Jerry,
Thank for calling me back the other day, I believe the prob is solved.

Jerry you should stop believing what your "friends" are telling you. Thats kind of like somebody telling me he saw bigfoot, and elvis and he has some vortec heads that flow 298cfms,,,HMMMMMMMMMM!! it's all in the same realm to me. don't believe it until I see it for myself.

nolans is quiet large, and its pretty decent. the only better core currently available from SPearco is the 2-182 design. Once you see the price of them, you wont complain anymore about the current production a/a pricing.

The ones I used to get have better numbers on paper, but........

Oh no; here I go again...What is an acceptable MAT for a modified truck? I'm still running water to air with the ATR aux. unit/pump and larger lower exchanger. I reaching 200+ degrees in a quarter mile run at 22 psi boost.

I end up around 120-125 with my Mccoy setup. and a much larger turbo. so jim I'd say it's time for a change...
