Well, I'll start from the beginning...I bought the truck maybe a month ago and it was driving and running good. It was building right at 15 lbs. of boost and it just seemed to run good. I've only put, maybe 400 miles on it. The last few times I drove it, I noticed it was only building around 10 lbs of boost. I was thinking maybe it was just the gauge that wasn't reading right, but today just proved to me that it definitely wasn't running right. I went to a buddies house and when I got there he wanted to go for a ride in the truck. So, we go a couple miles down the road and on the way back I saw a little smoke coming out from under the hood. I knew it wasn't good, but when I got out and popped the hood I knew something serious was wrong. I took the oil fill cap off and there it was...coolant. So, I'm just hoping for a blown head gasket and not a cracked block or something. I just thought I'd share my woes with other Sy/Ty owners. I'm sure I'll be back when I get a chance to crack into it.

Way to make me feel better! Haha, just kidding. I'm just hoping for the best...that's why I say I hope it's just a head gasket. But you know something weird...when I pulled the oil dipstick out...I didn't see any water/coolant in the oil. Hmmm, now I'm wondering. I just remember that. I'll have to check things out soon.

Are you sure it was coolant in the oil cap and not condensate, also was it smoke or steam coming from under the hood? Where is the smoke/steam coming from under the hood. Is any water/steam coming out of the exhaust? Check your coolant level, do a compression test and drain the oil, that will tell you more about what is happening inside the engine. Good luck.

You know that vaccum hose that hooks to the pcv valve on the driver's side valve cover? Isn't that supposed to hook to the air intake? For some reason that vaccum hose, on my truck, isn't hooked to anything. I had the truck running and I plugged that hose and there wasn't any noticeable change in idle, so I haven't really done anything with it. Yesterday when I saw, what I thought was smoke, but now I think it was steam, it was coming out of that hose off the pcv valve. There was some water coming out of that hose...not a lot, but a few drops. That's when I took off the oil fill cap and noticed what looked like coolant/water in the fill tube. I haven't checked for water or steam coming from the exhaust. Yesterday when this happened I was too pissed to really do anymore diagnosing. The coolant level was a little low, but I just topped off the system about a week ago. I'm hoping to get under the truck and do a little more work on it in the next few days. I'll be back with results.

I don't see the connection between a possible head gasket and the loss of 5 lbs of boost. I mean, the gasket would have to be so far gone to lose that much boost that it would be undriveable.

My suspicion; your boost blew the PCV hose off of whatever fitting it was supposed to be attached to, which would explain your sudden drop in boost, and as you stated, account for the smoke you saw, which was really steam.

Remember with these trucks, any hose attached to the intake (vacuum hose that is) needs to be clamped or a very tight fit, since they turn into pressure hoses under boost conditions.

The oil fill cap will have beads of water on it from time to time. Check your vacuum lines for one that has blown off as well as connections from turbo to ic and ic to intake for leaks.

Ok, I haven't had a chance to check the truck out anymore...but before I do...isn't that vaccum hose from the pcv valve supposed to hook to the air intake? My Sy doesn't have the stock air box, it has a cone filter...so was there a fitting that this hose connected to on the stock set up? I'm just trying to get a few things together before I go out there. Thanks for the suggestions...I really appreciate it!

yes, it ran to the front just above the radiator. A lot of people don't run it though for better or for worse.

The stock air crossover tube had the fitting molded in to it. It was a barb fitting. If you are using the stock crossover tube then you are asking to lose your turbo. Ask me how I know.

What filter are you running? I have the cone filter from K&N and a 3" OD pipe coming that I will just tap into and run the PCV via a filter back ion the same fashion.

^ What do you mean if I'm running the stock crossover pipe I'm asking to lose my turbo? Fill me in please cause I'm am using the stock set up with a small K&N cone filter. Tomorrow, I'm hoping to do some work on the truck, so I'll be back tomorrow with some updates.
