So my sy has been running semi alright the whole time i've had, always having a ticking noise that i swore was an exhaust leak, well after too much mone spent at the local shops I decided to run some compression tests, to find number 6 piston running at about 22 pounds of compression! So as I start to get to the head gasket, I find my 3 pistons on my passenger side are toast! One I can see a ring and the others have wholes in them-what the heck can cause this? The owner before supposedly had the engine rebuilt, perhaps the wrong pistons? Or could it be some chip in there I don't know about that is running the timing totally wrong? Any help would be great

yep. unfortunately too many people are under the impression that just because they have a brand new built engine, it is bulletproof and indestructible. Detonation will kill anything you put in its path. Best to carefully go through the truck and find out WHY it is detonating before you blow up the next one.

With these trucks, running semi all right is not good enough and with all due respect, you now have experienced this first hand. One of the most common problems with these trucks is detonation which leads to the damage you are now seeing. While you are in the engine rebuild stages, read the site and decide how you will proceed with your setup and tune.
In pure stock form these trucks had an inter-heater not an inter-cooler and that caused major problems. This was just one of the issues. Be like the guy pedaling newspapers on the street corner and "Read all about it". It will do your wallet good.

I can certainly attest to the damage detonation can do. I had put a new motor and tranny in my truck back in November and it was running great until I started using 87 octane fuel to "save money". I ran it hard back in early March and melted the intake and exhaust valve in #6 cyl plus melting the spark plug electrode and scarring the top of the piston. Fortunately the cylinder wall is not damaged and I have spare parts for replacement.
Regular (87 octane) gas will NEVER go in that gas tank again. Learned my lesson on that one. Good luck getting yours fixed.
