AutoMeter Phantom Fuel Pressure gauge

I have a question for you guys. I recently bought the AM FP Gauge off of Summit Racing for my 2 gauge A Pillar. Written very small on the face it says
MUST BE MOUNTED OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE

gauge # is 5712. will this pose a problem if mounted inside, other than the obvious danger of an exploding hose in the cab? thanks in advance,

It's a mechanical fuel pressure guage, which is why its much less than the other gauges you likely priced out. Electrical ones are much more since they rely on a sending unit to allow you to mount them in cab.

Personally I wouldn't mount it in the cab. You are going to run a line with gasoline under pressure adjacent to the electrical connections in your dash. That's about as bright as using a trouble lamp while changing your fuel pump (inside joke). One other consideration, I bet if you get teched at the track they will turn you around and send you home, refusing to let you run what is a blatantly dangerous setup.

But hey its been done before...

I used to have an Autometer FP inside my cab, but I used an isolator with it.(Gas from schrader valve to isolator/anti-freeze from isolator to gauge) It worked out pretty good,, until the isolator went bad. Then I went to electric inside, and just mounted the mechanical gauge under the hood. Problem is, they DON'T read the same?? Another problem, Autometer is having a RECALL on electric FP gauges(Don't have part #'s handy). I have a 1/2 sweep Autometer Phantom Electric FP gauge that is recalled. Once I get my Sy back from McCoy's, the gauge/sender are coming out of the truck and going back to Autometer. They said they'd replace it w/ a FULL sweep electric FP gauge. :D

For your mechanical gauge you should get an isolator if mounting inside, but it might be a PITA to run stainless braided line up to the pillar, then fill it w/ anti-freeze AND get the air outta it. But I think it could be done. IMO, for pillar gauges, I'd use an electric FP gauge.

Thanks for the heads up Mike. I bought an AutoMeter Phantom electric FP gauage for my Ty last Summer. Have to see if its included in the recall.

Dean,
I bought mine from Summit and received a letter in the mail, from Summit, concerning the recall. A few weeks after that I received another letter, this time from Autometer, informing me of the recall. I called Autometer and the lady told me they would continue the recall until they felt as if they collected all bad gauges. So there is no real time limit in which to get this done.

One more thing. I also asked the Autometer Rep if they would consider replacing my Phantom gauge with another style gauge. She said 'No Problem, just write a note and include which style you would like.'
That's cool with me as I decided I really want a gauge face that matches the stock dash gauges better! :D

Guess I'll have to find a way to mount my AM Phantom BOOST/VACUUM gauge in my L?
