Any Ultimate thefts?

Just curious, has anyone had or heard of a thief defeating the Ultimate chip security feature? This feature has been in place several years now and I was not aware of any instances.

I've never heard of one being defeated. Although, I can't imagine many instances where a would-be theif would have adequate time to sit there and try to defeat the lock. That, in itself, is the best security feature of the lock, not the complexity of the lock itself (IMO). However, for me, the security feature has:

- stopped one 4 year old cousin from starting my truck
- stopped countless friends from driving my truck
- stopped my mom from moving my truck from it's favorite place (garage)

FWIW, I had a buddy that had his truck broken into and the theif (apparently) attempted to bypass the ultimate. He had the ultimate in the glove box, and you can see where he (the thief) banged in there for a while. He eventually got mad enough to just rip it out and go about stealing the rest of the stuff he wanted. Kept his truck from getting stolen though........score one for the Ultimate.

if you ever open up the ultimate, its pretty obvious how to bypass the switch. there is just two wires to the switch.
i wouldnt rely on that switch for security.
you're probably better off putting a hidden disable switch in your truck. (i.e. fuel pump cutoff switch, ignition disable switch, etc)

the truck i looked at in MA awhile back, had the ultimate in it..

Sure, if the thief saw the display, knew what it was and how it worked. Then had time to open it up, cut the wires, strip them, and connect them. Most thieves are looking for kill switches.

The new versions released last summer require a code to be entered to lock/unlock them, eliminating the physical lock. This code is not the same on all units and changes every few months on new units. So even this unlikely event cannot happen.
