there have been a few threads reguarding this part recently.

It gets bolted to the bottom of the heat exchanger, as well as two bolts that hold it to the frame on the front crossmember.

you can kinda see it in these 2 pictures..

heres a shot from the front...

I checked today at work (dealer) and with my work discount it is still around $130-140

If you went to air-air intercooler would you still need this part?

where exactly did you get this information from? cause to my knowledge it really has been discontinued for quite some time. Recently another owner got one from a dealership and he was told it was a "new design" and it didnt even fit remotely close to how its supposed to, odds are its off of another vehicle and the dealership just :bs: him.

Its needed for nothing, it helps nothing, its a stone guard made from crappy brittle plastic.

thats what i was thinking .i think its more of a s 10 blazer off road thing _________

The one I bought from the GMC dealer that I had to "modify" only cost $40. The plastic was alot better quality than the original. Yeah, it doesn't fit right, but it still does fit. You have really bend it to get it back on, and it rubs against the front swaybar, but it still does the job, whatever that may be. If it's true, supposively it was updated for cooling issues. Not sure I beleive that but whatever. I'll see if I can't take picts of how my new one fits on the truck if I can remember. If I come across my reciept for it, I'll give you guys the part number, but I'm not sure where it is.

The plastic-tote air scoop is a better use of that spot on our trucks. The intent of the deflector is to improve airflow thru the lower IC by isolating the backside of the IC from the high-pressure area under the nose of the truck. The tote-scoop also does this, but also grabs a lot more air on the front side. I can't directly compare the deflector to the scoop, because mine was missing (of course) when I bought the truck. But, compared to nothing, the scoop made a 30 degree difference in IAT (informal testing). Also, with my tranny cooler mounted behind the lower IC, my trans (pan sensor) temps rarely go above 150 degrees while the truck is at highway speed. The only reason to buy this thing is to have a truck in completely original condition.

It is discontinued from GM, sometime when a part is discontinued and there is surplus it is sold to another company. When the part is looked up it will say this, and the phone number to call. I dont think just anyone can order from them because they aske for a dealer number when you call. I bought some of my center counsel parts from them.

FYI, Jim Longwith sells (sold?) an aluminum replacement one for like $75. Cheaper and better, can't go wrong.

The scoop increases the lower IC's ability to utilize the air flow under the truck.

When I went with the RPM A2A kit, I realized the lower air scoop could no longer be used. That's why I added to spal fans to the A2A IC to maintain proper air flow across the IC.
