Hi,
I bought an adjustable fuel pressure regulator for the Typhoon. Any tips for an easy change out?
Thanks,
Andrew

Here's my "off the cuff" hints: Make sure engine is cold, a bit of fuel will spill. Remove the inter-cooler, not sure you can do it otherwise. Good time to switch to hoses from steel lines it you haven't done it already. Buy the correct replacement return line o-ring from the parts store. The o-ring where the AFPR goes into the rail is an inj o-ring also available from the parts store. Don't cross-thread the return line, don't drop the little Allen bolts holding the thing in. Double check condition of line to manifold/MAP sensor. I found parts at NAPA.

step 1

relieve the fuel pressure at the schrader valve before you start loosening any bolts.

Good idea but in my experience not allot spills either way. I just wouldn't want to spill gas on a hot motor.

And I would add: Before reinstalling the IC and after the AFPR is installed run the fuel pump and check for leaks. (I swapped injs once, did this and one leaked. Impressive fuel spray.)

Thanks for the great tips!

To adjust, is it tighten to increase pressure and loosen to decrease pressure?

Thanks again

Yes. Screw the adjuster into the unit to raise pressure and vice versa.

You can do it without total intercooler removal.... it's just a lot less frustrating.

Take the hoses off the IC (loosen clamps) and loosen the 3 bolts that hold the IC on the bottom.

Take a big, long screwdriver, and use it to prop the IC upwards. You can also ziptie it up, if you can find something to hook on.

You should now be able to see the FPR clearly. With a flare nut wrench, loosen the return fitting at the bottom of the FPR. Then, take the 2 allen screws out that hold the regulator in.

Check the o-rings on the FPR before you put things back together. Sometimes the return line o-ring tears. Put a bit of vaseline on the o-rings to lube 'em up.

Start the return line on the bottom of the new regulator. Put the FPR on the rail, tighten the allen screws, then the return fitting.

Set the IC back down, put the hoses/clamps back on, and the bolts back in.
You're done.
