Im converting the CPI on my Sonoma GT to a Multiport sequential setup, and need to know from some people that have used these systems which is better or why i should use one over the other, im leaning towards the Gen 7 as i have heard alot of good things about it, like easier to tune and more user freindly. Also will eother one of these run stock Sy/Ty injectors, i can pick up some stock injectors pretty cheap versus 400+ for aftermarket injectors. Im only planning on running around 300 horses on the motor alone and then i have the bottom of my CPI Lower intake plumbed for a NOS fogger system jetted for a 300 shot ran thru a progressive controller, my fuel system has been completely redone as well.

Also what is the OHM reading of the stock injectors and i have ben told that the stock Sy/Ty injectors flow 36 PPH, is this true?? Thanks for you help.

One more thing i plan on getting a wideband for which ever system i buy, and do want to run it sequential thru my stock HEI distributor.

first of all, for the level you are talking, you probably won't notice a bit of difference between sequential and bank to bank, other than having a lighter wallet.

stock syty injectors ~29-32lb/hr depending on who you believe... they are high impedance injectors. Why not do a wet shot with the ECM controlling fuel versus nitrous ? Do you have bigger goals down the road? if so, do bigger injectors. I'd still do at least a 50# injector, just to keep the duty cycle low for the 300hp level.

Anyways, FAST is very easily tuned - DFI v7 shows promise, but I have yet to play with one. I don't see EVERYONE going to it, like it was thought. There aren't any solid features above and beyond the FAST system as far as I've seen. The TC lockup control is a joke, there still is no boost control, there still is no MPH input or p/n switch input. With the new Windows software, the FAST system has good datalogging. FAST is very easy to navigate and use, after you play with it for a short time. DOS software can be navigated *very* quickly, and changes made on the fly, can even use an ancient laptop for this - this may even be a benefit of the FAST system.

Here's my selections

If you want easily tuned, and you are somewhat good with a computer - FAST (DFI *could* be as good, but I have yet to see a ton of people running it, and with rumors of expensive 02 sensors, and problems... i say why go to it if there are NO clear benefits - FAST is proven to go fast and is simple)

If you are *very* techy, or have lots of money to pay someone, but want a TON of features for the money... get the AEM. It'd be a bitch to setup, but it is hands down the most impressive system I've come across.

I didn't even put chips in there, since this isn't a Syty we are referring to, and your ECM would be a PITA to learn on.

Anyways.. I'm not going to vote... honestly, I think the FAST and DFI v7 are *very* similar, and it will come down to support, the prices you have gotten, whether or not that is with full harness or plug n play, some people offer the FAST with injectors, there are many calibrations available for FAST from Syty peeps, and you may be able to borrow some numbers to get you started. The dashboard display of the DFI software is pretty nice too.

Well i started with trying to hack my stock Calpak, but there is nothing to go on on any of the old school GM ECM hacking sites, my ECM isnt supported anywhere, thats why i elected to go with a multiport setup with aftermarket controller.

I do have bigger goals down the road, mainly at least a single turbo replacing the NOS, maybe twin, not sure yet.

I do want it to be failry easy to tune as i do everything myself, as i hate to pay othe rpeople to work on my own ride.

I am running a fogger wet shot, and will have plenty of fuel going in so im not sure if having the DFI add more will be beneficial.

I have to have a VSS input, as i need to keep my stock speedo wor, king properly, and i do want to retain TCC lockup.

And as far as the Sequential VS Batch or bank to bank, im not dead set on that, just whatever works best.

My engine will be fully built to handle the power level, my goal is 10.50 or better in the 1/4, and plan on output levels of 550-600 horses on the juice. Im not worried about running WOT in closed loop, but the main thing is i need to keep all of my stock guages working, i want the truck to remain as stock looking as i can, except for a few guages in a pillar pod and the fuel cell and N2O bottles in the bed.

What kind of price tag does the AEM system have and will it do everything i need it to do?? Also is it easy to tune?? I have a little bit if experience tuning an old school accel DFI using the original calmap software so im not a total newbie, but have never used any other system an need all the info i can get so that i can make the right choice. I have been hearing a lot of good things about the AEM controller but have been unable to find alot of info.

The point being beneficial of the dry shot is that it's one less thing you have to worry about in the nitrous setup - if the nitrous line clogs or whatever, you run rich with extra fuel injected at the injector. If you clog a fuel line in the nitrous system - you'll have bigger issues.

Your speedo will have nothing to do with the ECM used; same thing with the rest of the gauge cluster. It isn't ran off the computer, it's separate. later model vehicles have serial driven gauge clusters, and yer F'd if you go to an aftermarket computer. The point of the speed input to the new ECM was for datalogging data, for TC lockup controls, what have you....

For sequential/bank to bank - not a big deal. The bank to bank will be easier (no cam sensor needed) and cheaper, and probably won't affect drivability at all. I have ran bank to bank on 75 & 83# injectors with great drivability.

AEM would probably be in the 1500-2000 dollar range, without wideband sensor, with a generic race harness. I can almost guarantee you'd go psychotic trying to make it work though... you can configure EVERYTHING on it. The import guys have it easier, as they have very well done startup programs & plug n play harnesses for the popular cars (some honduhs, supras, dsm's) You have to go through and configure most of the stuff to even make it start if you don't have a customized startup program. It is NOT simple, but it is very thorough and offers pretty much any feature you could possibly imagine. Want boost control? want a knob to scale fueling across the board? want a 2 step rev limiter? want to datalog 4 egt probes? want to do something versus mph? want to have 2 02 sensors? want multiple knock sensors? want to configure them to only retard certain cylinders? or add fuel to certain cylinders? endless possibilities... I drool thinking about it, but also cringe, knowing one day I'll probably try and make one work in my Sy. I have played with one on a DSM. YOU HAVE TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ON IT....or you will be lost. If i went through the features, i'd type for an hour or so. www.aempower.com i think is their site...

I think you'd be very happy with the FAST or the DFI v7. shop around, see what kind of deals you can get on either, see how comfortable you are with DFI's support, see who can make you a harness for it, if they don't sell 'em.

Yeah im on AEM's site right now and they dont have a universal controller, so i would have to buy just a box and make a harness to work, not deal, but alittle more than i wanted to do. Thanks for all the info, i will be giving DFI and FAST a call as well as AEM.

word is that you can get a race harness for the AEM soon... let me know if you want to make that plunge, i can probably get you a deal... Mike Lee might be in good with them too.

I think you'd be happiest with the FAST or DFI tho, like i said.

I have the DFI and it was an PITA to work with in the beginning . Now its easier for me . I have an MSD pro billet HEI distributor and i got an V8 harness which fit on all my stock sensors but with 2 extra injector harness which is no big deal . But from what i hear from diferent board the FAST is alot more user friendly then the DFI .

Just remember Fast has to pay Acce every year for the copyrights they borrow from accell, if you have any problems with the gen 7 call accel they are great guys over there.

Just remember, the guy that did Accel DFI v6 got out of Accel, then did FAST... and now is through with FAST and working on new stuff that is due out shortly.

While on the subject of the harness; is there a difference in the harness supplied by raceprovenmotors and PTE. Are they both Plug-n-play?

Mike gets his FAST harness from PTE.

I don't think anyone offers a plug n play harness for Syty's to use the Accel DFI gen 7 yet.

Yet, is the major word ill be doing my best to change that.

Well interestingly enough i have gone another direction, since im converting my CPI to a multi port setup, i went to the local pick a part and got a 7730 ECM and wiring harness from a 92 Camaro RS with the HO 3.1 V6, and im going to replace my stock CPI engine harness with the multi port one and splice in my stock dash harness so everything works, i will then be able to burn my own chips and have a poor mans DFI, for less than a 100 bucks i got the ECM and harness, thats alot cheaper than the 1800 for the FAST setup with the WB.

I do have one other question, can i take one of the Honda/NGK wide band O2's and hook it up to an aftermarket, ie autometer, air fuel ratio guage and have it respond correctly, or will the guage not be able to read the sensor???

No those sensors need a controller to be built to be used.

Do some searching, it's been covered.

THere are some other bonuses to using DFI/FAST as well...

Yeah i know there are, but its really out of my budget for right now, so im going to give it the old school hacker approach and see how far i can get. And i remember seeing a deal on a GMEFI site on how to build your own controller for the WB.

Just for the record, you CANNOT use a wideband 02 sensor without a controller, and it's a relatively complex circuit.

I'm aware you know of this in the other thread, just wanted to make that clear to anyone else that reads this.
