who made/makes the arms that used hyme joints instead of bushings, they are what i want, but i cant seem to find ones still being produced.

i personally hate balljoints and bushings, i would much rather have a teflon lined sphere than something i have to grease, thats what im looking for when i do coilovers

The crook Al Dunstan (sp)
There were durability issues with the heims that he used.

Re: a-arms

I've read time and time again that heim joints don't hold up in vehicles that are driven daily and actually exposed to any kind of elements..?? Are you building a DD or a show truck?

Re: a-arms

well i have hiemed steering and uper and lower uni-balls(same idea) on my toyota for 3 years with no issues, they are teflon lined 4130. no issues i have a tahoe 2wd that has uniballs uper and lower with no issues for the past year. the toyota has had the piss beat out of it offroad on on and the tahoe is daily driver work truck with 20,000 miles on these spherical balls. no reliability issues at all.

that being said it will be a show truck, hardly driven, never in the rain,ect...So how would i go about a purchase if i so desired? I saw a name up there but unsure what that means for me other than they are maybe not made anymore? or would someone out there like to sell me their used set. anyone know of anyone who has some?

Re: a-arms

The Dustan's aren't made anymore. I'd make a post in the parts wanted forum and see if anyone replies..

As far as I know RPM is the only company currently selling tubular A-arms for SyTys.

Good Luck!!

Re: a-arms

think about this for a minute.

these joints are mounted sideways off the control arms.

these joints are not made for side loading.

they are for loads pulling or pushing parallel to them.

if the load is sideways the center can pop out of the housing.

and yes i know someone with these joints on a typhoon w/ these arms that has had these issues...]

IT IS NOT SAFE!

Re: a-arms

Some of the issue with wear is that Dunstan used the cheap Heim Joints. I look up the ones he sent me and they were list as economy.

The joint on the lower A-Arm as Ed said is NOT loaded properly. Call any heim joint manufacture, tell them how it is being loaded and on what and see what they say?

Economy version or not, from an engineering standpoint it is wrong.

Re: a-arms

I have a set of the DPT tubular coilovers with heims on my truck but I am not going back to stock.

I talked to QA1 about their chromoly / teflon coated heims and their weight rating was significantly higher than the economy heims that Dustan was supplying.
I have the data sheet and pricing at home.
I also had a set of chromoly ball joint adapters made (Thanks JSM) to replace the sintered steel adapter.

If you had a set of coilovers that used the traditional ball joints I'd be more than willing to negotiate a trade.
I have wanted to switch to the JSM coilovers for awhile now but he quit fabricating them.
