Hello Ladies and Gents,

I had a post going in the new members thread, but thought I would start an official build thread for the new project. This is my first Syty, but am pretty familiar with them since I have been watching eviltwin's build come together ever since he first purchased it. Eviltwin and I got this project from Bryan here on the forums on 12/31/09. The 5.3 and 4L80E are all ready in, but plenty of things still need to be done.

Here is a quick rundown of the build:

DRIVETRAIN
  • 2006 5.3
  • Patriot stage 2 LQ9 heads
  • LS6 cam
  • ARP head studs
  • 60lb injectors
  • LS6 intake
  • Mildly built 4L80E
  • PI 3000 convertor
  • 4wd t-case
  • Narrowed Silverado 8.5 rear with posi
  • Stock front axle

BRAKES/SUSPENSION/WHEELS/TIRES
  • C6 Z06 6 piston front
  • C6 Z06 4 piston rear
  • QA1 coilovers front and rear
  • C6 Z06 replica wheels
  • Front 18x9.5 255/30r18
  • Back 18x11 295/30r18

TURBO SETUP
  • Tial 44mm wastegate
  • Tial BOV
  • GT76 Turbo

Here is what it looked like when we picked it up on the 31st:

Eviltwin and I just moved her to a bigger garage, and now the fun begins. We stripped down the front end, cleaned up some wiring that wont be needed, and removed some lines for the time being. It will be much easier not having to work around all this stuff when making the headers and turbo setup. The header kit is on order and will be here on Thursday. Once it arrives we will start the turbo and exhaust setup. Here is what it looks like as of this evening (sorry the last pics are a bit dark - kinda ran out of daylight, but you get the idea:

This build wont be finished quite as quickly as eviltwin's build, but our goal is to have it running by the end of Feb. We will try to keep the thread updated with our progress as we finish stuff. Were pretty excited to see how it comes together. Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

I would suggest using quality materials,so they will last long & not leak.

There is no need to shit in this thread too.

It's his shit and he can do whatever the **** he wants to,whether you approve of it or not.

Yes! Thank you. My buddy eviltwin warned me that there are some haters here, which is the exact reason why he stopped updating his thread and posting on the forums. He got sick of seeing 1 page of constructive comments, pointers, and questions and about 4 pages of garbage. (Its a shame really cause he is quite knowledgeable when it comes to syty's, and has a real talent for this stuff). Now dont get me wrong, constructive input is always welcome, (We can always use a good tip or piece of advice) as long as we dont sit and harp on pointless crap. Im in this to have fun and learn as much as I can throughout the process... Anyhoo, thanks for the input. Now, back to the build!

I'll enjoy watching this thread, Your always going to have "armchair" quarterbacks, but sometimes you have to take the good with the bad. There's a few people who would rather see these trucks left with a 4.3 and that's it. Personally I'd rather see somebody doing something different with them.Good luck, I sure like the brakes on yours.

Boy you need to relax!!!

My comment is a good tip for parts to last a long time, sorry you took it the wrong way.

all of my other comments were tips on using good parts, watch out for detonation etc. ,then you haters that dont understand me & say I am a hater, grow up!

You buddy stopped posting here probably because my prediction came true it blewup. I told him so & he did not want to listen, o-well ,I dont know everyrhing as I am still learning myself.

If you are using a stock pistons & rods, dont let it detonate it will blow up big time.
I'd suggest installing one of these.

Allrighty, well thanks for the advice. I will check out that link that tomorrow when I have more time to read up on it.

Bryan has done a great job thus far on the build, and has used some very good parts/lines/fittings etc. We will continue to do so, but will also be adhering to a budget. In the end we want power but also want a reliable ride that can be daily driven. I think this goal is definitely attainable.

Oh and BTW, eviltwins Sy is still going strong. As a matter of fact, we literally just got back from a little 200 mile road trip to Sacramento and back. She never skipped a beat the entire time! Gotta love it! Its fun seeing all the heads turn as you drive by, cause the thing sounds like an absolute beast. The little trip made me about 100x more excited to get the Ty goin!

Anyways, thanks all for the comments and stay tune for header progress!

Thank you, I am very happy the truck went to a great home, with outstanding fabricators to get the job done right. Eviltwins truck sounds like a beast. I don't know how he fits in it (he is over 6'6)but very nice build for shure. They have the skills to get her done. Can't wait to see and hear this beast. It does kind of hurt that I am not going to finish the project my self. But I am happy that it will be done right and rolling sooner than I would of had it going. Keep up the great work.

Re: 5.3/4L80E Single Turbo Typhoon Build

Hello again,

So yesterday eviltwin and I started on the headers. We were able to get the turbo (passenger) side header pretty much finished. Some of the welding just needs to be finished up. Here are some pics:

What the kit started looking like:

Two of the primaries tacked in place:

Ready to be welded:

Thinkin about where the turbo will be situated:

Welding it up:

We both got pretty busy today so didnt really have any time to work on the driver side. Looks like that'll be for next weekend.

I like to see the 5.3 put to work ... reminds me of a modern 327 :) ---

The driverside header should be made this weekend. It will be a mirror image of the passanger side. I want to leave open the idea of going twins on it in the future when there is more money to spend. Right now it will be getting the tc78 from my Sy.

Re: 5.3/4L80E Single Turbo Typhoon Build

Hey guys,

Here is a quick update from this weekend. Got the driver side header finished. It was a bit more tricky cause we had to get around the steering shaft. Think it turned out pretty good though. We also swapped out the cam for one that is a bit more aggressive ( 229/229 .581/.581 114). Should give us a bit more power and sound nice too. We figured we might as well do the swap now while its easily accessible.

And strippin the engine down to get to the cam:

As they sit right now we have $179 into these headers and about 8hours of work. Next up is mounting the turbo with the crossover and starting the downpipe. Hopefully we can get over to a junkyard soon so we can pick up a stock coresupport and sell the aluminum one.

Re: 5.3/4L80E Single Turbo Typhoon Build

You are doing an incredible job!! I planned on bringing this gem to TN 4 days before you bought it but Bryan and I kept missing each other on calls. Have a quick question regarding the manifold bends; is it not possible to use a pipe bender and reduce the amount of required MIG welds? Just curious.

Keep up the excellent work. Hope to see a video of this truck scootin down the road.
