Personally I like Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R's

I was able to source 275/30 18's but now tirerack is only listing the 265/35 18, either one would fit a 9.5" rim perfect.

They grip like no street tire I've ever owned, have good side wall strength and
thier wet weather performance isn't bad either.
They are not the longest lasting tire but if you are looking for a performance tire, they are hard to beat.

On my Sy I'll be using the same size tire all the way around.

Not only is it nice to be able to rotate tires but also wider tires in the back will make the truck even more prone to understeer.

Why not go with a 275/40/18 ? I was looking into this combo for my Typhoon also. Is anyone running this size tire on there Sy or Ty?

Because it's a little over an inch taller then stock, unless you've changed gear ratio's or are looking to do so it will have a effect on the vehical.

P275/35R-18 is identical to stock height, unless your trying to adjust some stuff with a different size tire.

Re: 18"x9.5 ZO6 wheels

Wouldnt that be OK since both the front and the rear are the same height?

Nick

Not trying to argue, just wondering what a one inch taller tire all the way around would do?

Would have the effect of altering the gear ratio by about 3.7%.

Stock 3.42 gears would then feel more like you're running 3.30 gears, with the associated reduction in cruise rpm.

Dreamin, curious how you came up with the 3.7%. When I through it in the Miata calculator it came up with 4%. Not that .3% is that big of a difference, but just curious. I'm sure tire manufactor to tire manufactor will vary that much.

275.40.18 Falkens. They throw the speedometer off ~3-4 mph @ 70

Trust me, go at least 275/35, better yet 285/35. To me the 275 looks too narrow. Go for a good Nitto tire.....NT555

I compared diameters that were 1" apart, and used 25.7" as the starting point (which is the outside diameter of a 275/40/17). If you started with a different number, you might get slightly different results, but the net effect is the same. A roughly 3.5% to 4% change in gear ratio for a 1" tire diameter change (in the 24" to 28" neighborhood). Certainly accurate enough for an idea on gear ratio impact.

But you do make an excellent point. Some manufacturers do make tires that are not really where the numbers would indicate they should be (especially some of the specialty stuff). Some manufacturer's 275 / 40 / 17's have more tread width than others (since the 275 is the section width, not the tread width). And there may be slight variations in diameter between brands, but OD should be pretty close.

I have 275/40/18 all around and they look really good. They fill up the gap in the fender well nicely, but they are kinda close to the cladding.

X2

I thought that the 275/35/18 looked too rubber bandish of a tire, I also didn't want much wheel gap. but now that I have them on the truck I wish I would have went a little wider.....

Don't want to butt in but I've got a question about your ZO6 Wheels. I have just installed a set of ZO6s 18X9.5 on my TY. They look great. BUT the front axels are about 1 inch too long to install the center caps. What have I missed? It looks like the answer is to shorten the front axels. If you had the same problem how did you do yours? Are the axels soft enough for a Hack Saw? Thnx for the help.

Re: 18"x9.5 ZO6 wheels

I had to weld 3/8 stops onto the stock limiters on the control arms cuz the rims were rubbing. I also had to cut off the ends of the cv's with a disc grinder, took a few mins

Yea it's pretty common... you have to take a sawzaw or hacksaw to them in order to get the center caps to fit.

Here is a few pics, not the best but... of My rims with Nitto 285/35/18 all the way around. They are 555's on the front and drag radial 555r's on the back.

looks great man... I can't bring myself to run 18's though traction out of the hook would suffer much. there's already a huge difference from 16s to 17s, can't even imagine with 18s
