Re: '13 Nats

We could always coordinate a Nats 13 alternative (so to speak) and provide members a choice. Would just need some guys close to York, PA to find a motel. This should not be hard. Maybe a Friday/Saturday event (arrival Thurs evening) with Friday spent at Hershey Park, races Friday night, show and shine Sat morning followed with a nice lunch (closing ceremony) and then we jet. Just a thought.....doesn't have to be high cost to be enjoyable.

Back on topic lest I get banned.

this could be do able plenty of big hotels maybe we could coordinate that weekend with trucks carlisle and spend the saturday there with a very large number of trucks

Re: '13 Nats

it will be in the east, there was never any doubt about that, the format since moving from KC has been East, West, East, West...... last Nats was in CO (thats West for the geographically challenged), so naturally it will now be in the East again. Once the track is set and we send a deposit, then the Nats website and threads on the forum will be updated, registration info will be soon to follow, any racing updates/changes, hotel info, ect.

Drag racing is a must for any event where there is a large turnout, if there is one close by. Drag racing for SyTys is pretty much a measure of how well your truck performs in our world, since it's what these trucks were designed for in the first place Autocrossing is becoming more popular for the rental cars/daily drivers that show up, which seems to be more and more, since the older these trucks get, the more that end up on jack stands. Really, what fun is a 16+ second quarter mile commuter car. Abusing that same car/minivan on an autocross course IS a ton more fun. cough cough, Warren cough.

Last Nats in CO, but last YEAR was certainly not west. Thats kinda whack mentality. Michigan is less than 1000 miles from basically anywhere in the east, but over 1000 anyone west of kansas. Just saying. If its back and forth, then thats 2 years east

Re: '13 Nats

Nationals is a biennial event. Therefore, it's rotation is not based on the fact that we have Homecoming and Shindig on the in-between year. The fact that those happen East of the Mississippi is of no consequence to Nationals. If someone out West wants to plan an event to fill the gap between Nationals coming back, I'm sure no one would have an issue with that....but counting Homecoming or Shindig as an "East Nationals" is kinda whack mentality.

Last YEAR there was no nats. In 2011 it was in CO, and that was considered west. Im not sure what Michigan has to do with anything, Nats was never in Michigan.

Again, it has only been in this format since KC no longer worked for the community (I believe it was a hotel issue at first, then they demo'ed the track)

2009 - East - Bowling Green
2011 - West - Colorado
2013 - East - TBA
2015 - West - ????

No Nats, but homecoming, come on
Come on what? HC and Shindig are both regional events that welcome all owners. They don't interfere with or assist with Nationals in any way.....they are they're own thing. You want the same thing out West? Start it up.....no one is stopping you. Find a location, find cooperative facilities, nail down a date, announce it on the board and you've got the ball rolling.

im just saying, if every even numbered year is homecoming, which is only 647 miles from your house, twice that from mine, 3 times that for cali, then why should it alternate e/w. Its just $hitty i think. but whatever.

come on what? its a completely different event, coordinated by a completely different committee, its always in Michigan on the years which Nats is not. the Shindig event is also coordinated by a different committee and its always in the Southeast on the years Nats is not.

The format above is how Nats was setup after it was voted on by the members of this forum, based on overall attendance, people expressing financial difficulties trying to do it every year, and the committee changing faces over the years.

The other events listed above were to supplement Nationals on the off years, not replace it. The Michigan owners put on Homecoming, the GAST/FAST crew put on Shindig. It is in agreement that those events will not take place on the year that the Nats event is planned. The NASTE crew can get 30+ trucks to a regular meet at Hooters whenever they plan events.

I have no clue what the owners out west do these days. MHST used to have some events, as did SoCal SyTy, but they have both been quiet in recent years.

Try 900 miles from my house, but that's not the point. The point is that HC, Shindig, NASTE Fall Meet, UK Nats, Canadian Nats, MarthaSue's Backyard BBQ, etc.... are all events in their own right and have NOTHING to do with Nationals. Nationals is biennial and alternates East to West. How is that not good enough? Is it because there are no established regional meets out West? WELL THEN START ONE! The only thing stopping you is your own motivation.

The Turkey Rod Run is held in Daytona, FL every single year. That's about as polarizing a location as you can get in the Lower 48 and you don't see them feeling compelled to move it around every year. My point is that Nationals does an excellent job of not leaving either coast out to dry by alternating. The regional meets are designed to fill the gap between Nationals.

It's....just....that....simple.

It's a bigass country we live in, no matter where NATS is some people will be close, and some will be far.

despite the numbers of the community, fact is the numbers at Nats have dropped off and will never been like they were in 1998 & 1999. These trucks are a cult vehicle, there weren't a lot made, there are fewer left and there are even fewer members who actually give a crap enough to go to a national even and meet other owners.

Then you plenty of members who do love the trucks, who really want to go, but simply cant attend do to work, family or financial reasons.

All of these factors play a significant roll in how big or small nats is, unfortunately.

The KC, central location thing worked for a while, now we're trying the east/west thing, maybe in the future we'll have to try another format to keep people happy and keep Nats alive.

Re: '13 Nats

I made my way through the thread and most of the talk is about location. Is there a date in mind yet? My wife is due mid July, so I am more concerned with the date than location.
