12vdc engine running source

Do we have a source for 12v in the fuse box only for when the engine is running? Or am i stuck using IGN for key turn only? Need it for electric fan setup. Thanks

Re: 12vdc engine running source

should be a couple blank spots in the fuse box that says acc, ignition or you could put a lead on the back post of the alt or if you removed the abs there is a 12v constant feed there

Re: 12vdc engine running source

IM looking for a 12v source that is only active when engine is RUNNING, not just when key is in, so i dont think alternator, or ign in fuse block qualify.

NecroWolf is right. ign in the fuse box means the power is on only when the ignition is turned on, not when the key is in. If you don't believe that, get a multimeter and check it out. The only thing that gets power when the key is in, is the buzzer that lets you know the key is inserted and the door is open. There are several relays under the hood that will provide a 12v keyed power source. Fuel pump, wipers, abs, etc. just pick one. If you are going to run fans, which draw a lot of amps, I would use a relay that is activated by a keyed power source.

You guys just aren't understanding what he is asking for. He only wants 12v when the engine is "RUNNING". He could care less about the key or what position its in.

Now, to answer his question. There is no such wire/circuit to tap into. Your best bet would be to build some sort or RPM intelligent relay that turns on a relay when it sees > ~500 RPM..

I bet if you were to do some google searches you could find a schematic for something like that.

Good luck and what do you need it for?

best of luck then and i thought i was doing some oddball shit. for a fan system i'd just use a temp switch and a key triggered relay.

The "R" terminal on the alternator is 12v when the alternator is charging. This turns off the ALT light.

Something, somewhere in the datastream (if nowhere else) tells datamaster what to do with the "Eng Running" cell. Wether or not it is something that can be tapped, IDK... Has to be a simple way to "sense" voltage on the tach feed, and trigger a relay from there.

You are absolutely right, I do not understand. To run fans you do not need the motor to be running.

Re: 12vdc engine running source

You can get an adjustable rpm activated switch then connect the negative trigger from that to a fan control relay. Summit has one Part# SUM-830450
