what's my truck worth?

My wife and I have a ton of medical bills plus the addition of our baby boy a few months back is prompting me to sell a bunch of stuff.. I'm just wondering if it would benefit us for me to sell the sy or just keep her.

So i'd like some ball park figures on what you guys think my sy's worth maybe in todays horrible market.

Also have the stock 2bar map, atr pitbull street chip, upper/lower fan shrouds, leaf springs and misc stock stuff to go with the truck

The bad:

Truck needs paint, factory paint is chipped some and missing from the roof area
A small rust bubbles under paint above driver side wheel well arch
Rust on the inside bottom of the tailgate, not seen unless you open the gate and look down
Phantom wiper behavior.. may just go ahead and replace the stalk to cure this
Small crack on dash pad from previous owner
Needs the heater core replaced, I bypassed it a while back because I don't use it
Could use a custom tune but with the ostrich it's simple

Truck is light and very quick.. runs smooth, has never leaked a drop of anything and have never had any problems with the truck. Trans and stall is completely stock and has never had any problems( I don't break boost much at all ever) and it shifts very first like new. So feel free to ask any questions and like I said, Im just looking to see what people think it's worth that know what these trucks are so I can figure out our future together

Why not sell the Mustang and keep the Sy? The Sy will hold the value better than the Stang over the years. Plus it's easier to replace than the Sy.

Well the syclone needs a good tune and I honestly can't afford to keep up with it if I drive it hard.. I can't afford to drop 3k for a trans or worse if I melt a piston not that it's in bad shape or anything but anything can happen and if that does happen then im screwed.. it'll sit for a very long time or get sold as a roller which I don't like the idea of.

Besides that the mustang's cheap, easy to work/find parts for and can take a beating. I put a nice trans in it to handle 500hp and have a nice top end kit for her and have already put it on a diet so it's not going anywhere for a long time and will be my daily driver as well. Plus with the baby and all the back seat is looking better and better each day. PLUS I have the 5 speed itch once again and like you said I prob wouldn't get much for the mustang where as the syclone well it's worth at least twice what the mustang is

Damn Ryan, I'd hate to see you go man. Why not trade for a TY? You get back seat and still get to play. The trucks can be reliable if you don't abuse them all the time but I guess that would be no fun right?

Four things often make or break a sale; paint condition, mechanical condition, interior condition and no rust. Evidence of rust is not good....ever and therefore since you have identified 3 of the 4 major selling points as deficient on your Sy, I disagree with the other guys about $8-9,000. I'd say with your description and the current market, a $6,000 offer would be more realistic which leads me to this.....if you have the time to part it out and the parts are in nice to extra nice condition, you could make $8,000. I might not be kind but I always try to be honest when someone asks for opinions.

T-Bone, I feel my truck is worth at least 8k but I completely and totally see where your coming from.

Allow me to explain a little further..

Paint, The paint on the truck is in fantastic shape for it's age and shines like it's new but it needs a repaint because along the roof are missing some paint that would have to be delt with. It's not that the paint is a complete loss or faded beyond repair. It's the fact that the oem paint let go alittle on the roof from the age plus this isn't a garage queen. This truck is driven but taken well care of don't get me wrong.

Mechanical condition, the truck runs great and pulls really hard without any KR on data logs. It's been data logged since the second week i've purchased/registered it back in 2001 so mechanically it's sound. It could use a professionally tune to get the most out of what's in the truck but without the tune it's still putting down some serious power without any KR and drives great so it would a matter of preference and how much power you need out of the truck to get wood. It's not like the truck is poorly tuned thus resulting in poor condition engine or anything.

Interior condition, interior's perfect with the exception of the small crack on the dash pad. This was there when I purchased the truck and hardly noticed it. Im sure to someone who loves eveyrthing to be perfect it will bother them to death but im not as anal. I don't like pos or hack jobs but this crack doesn't get to me as much as if it was larger in size. Besides the dash pad is a standard S10 S series truck part and can be had pretty darn cheap so if that's a huge concern for the buyer it's not go ing to be a huge hit in the pocket to have corrected so I dont' see it as a huge strike against the value of my truck.

Rust, well I don't think it's uncommon to find rust on a 78k 17 year old pickup and it's just a fender and tailgate. The rest of the ruck, underside of bed included is rust free. The truck has been cared for and has been driven unlike most others and it shows in both how well it looks for it's age and how well it performs compared to others out there right now for sale. I see ones on craiglist in non running condition asking for more then 8k so 8k to me is not an option.

Ryan, I know what you are saying.....I've been there too but the market dictates the worth of an item when selling time comes and not the owner. The owner simply determines the asking or selling price. My prototype Syclone is worth $35,000 to me because it is 1 of 2 and uber nice BUT the market only showed interest between $12-15,000. If you sell, I hope you get $10,000 but given the fact of the unstable economy, the devaluation of the dollar, the rising oil prices and maybe getting a goofy 40+ year old President with little to no experiance in office doesn't enhance your sale. Guess to make it brief, NOW is the time to market it IF you are gonna sell it.

My first instinct when I see it needs a 'tune badly' is that its someone else headache that they couldn't figure out. Some of those trucks turn out out to need a new motor later on.

It seems like your only major mods that would affect the tune is RPM Stage 1 turbo and Alky Injection (more so with the Alky Injection). I would lower the boost, pull the Alky and you should be able to get your truck running very good.

When I say it needs a tune I really mean to get the most out of what it has done to it.. I've never had it tuned for alky and there isn't any kr only un some upshifts like I mentioned earlier so i don't think it's as aggressive as a tune as it could be if you were to dig into tuning it to get the most out of her.
