I have a main bearing out so its time to rebuild. Im pulling the motor today and getting it ready for the machine shop and I need some good info for my build and I know most of you guys have been through it all... some of you more that once
Im gonna go with a solid bottom end....eagle rods, JE pistons.....ext. where my question comes in is I wanna go with vortec heads off of a newer 4.3 and have a good amount of port work done.... should I go that route or not?
what is a good all around cam I should get? I wanna step up and go bigger but keep reliability.
My motor is stock now but I am going with an external waist gate and a A.F.P.R. and I have a walbro 255 pump and I removed the cat(shhh dont tell anybody) buts that it up to now

If anyone has any other info feel free to add some imput. Thanks in advance!!!!!

thats a pretty loaded question. A lot depends on money and what your ultimate hp goal is. the stock vortec heads flow a lot better and are less prone to detonation than the stockers, so if you save the 600 or 800 dollars on port work and use that on a turbo or torque converter it might be better spent. also the cost of modification to the intake manifold should be considered. what are the mods done to the truck already. a new cam and heads will be overkill for a stock turbo or even a 20g

mods..... just the walbro pump, deleted egr, ram air and thats it, its pretty much stock. While the motor is out im gonna put a stall in go with external waist gate. I have a friend that owns a machine shop so the porting and the mods to the intake will not be much at all.
as far as horsepower if I could get another 100 above stock that is about all im looking for at this time but,if I do go bigger later I want the bottom end to be up to par. Money was not the bigger issue here on my build but, that I got some solid imput on my build.... there is a lot of knowledge on this site

I fall you want is 100hp more, I would build it with W rods, Forged pistons, stock crank, maybe a different cam and throw some alky in the mix. Cost would be minimal and you would be more than happy. Oh and turn the boost up.

Re: Its that time... need some help guys

dont use the L35 rods, for the price eagles would be much better piece of mind. And cam and heads with the stock turbo isnt a good combo.
