Hey i'm here just wanting to Learn about these syclone trucks. I'm in Germany for right now but when i get back to the states i'm going to try and get me one. My questions are. what kind of mpg does the truck get if you can drive it normal? Next how hard are they to to maintain? Insurance on them? And lastly why do you have one?

Thanks Randy

They average around 15-17mpg if you drive somewhat normal and stay out of boost. PREMIUM FUEL ONLY. Some guys are able to creep into the 20mpg range....Ive done 22mpg on my non stock truck. It all depends on the maintanence and how good of a tune you keep the truck.

They are maintanence whores. They eat ignitions (plugs, wires, cap/rotor) and are constantly needing to be monitered for detonation issues, fuel and spark issues. Specialty parts (cladding, certain interior pieces, certain engine and drivetrain parts are now becoming harder to find and prices are going up. They arent *hard* to maintain, just expensive and it becomes a regiment to keep it tuned.

Insurance isnt anything like if you were going to own a vette or viper. If you do a search, there are plenty of threads with people saying how much they pay monthy/yearly.

Why do I have one? Ive always liked the S-series trucks and what better to have one of the fastest production trucks ever made. Most are unsuspecting that a SyTy can burn off the quarter in low 13s in pure stock form. They've got an interesting history, and I know I can drive down the road with something unique that Im not going to see hundreds more at the next intersection. They are the underdog that comes out and whips your ass when your not ready for it. Those who know them are typically afraid of them. Those who are foolish enough to try, quickly gain respect.

Hagerity is a great way to insure a Syclone. IMO Syclones and Typhoons should not be an every day driver. Then again it all depends on what your looking for exactly. I was looking for a Syclone to make a street/strip race truck. You can choose the value of insurance you want with Hagerity and you can drive up to 5k miles a year. Depending on the value, and the deducable you choose will determine the cost per year in insurance. For 15,000.00 and a 0 deducatable I think it cost about 600-700 dollars a year.

Hagerity insures a Syclone and Typhoon as a exotic type of vehicle meaning the limited production numbers put it into that catagory.

Forget about getting as Syclone and get a Typhoon!

X2, When I got mine, it was getting 19mpg needing a tune-up. After spending 1.5 years doing a tune-up every 4 months while having to use it as a DD. I installed NGK Iridium plugs, MSD-6A, MSD plug wires and a (MSD coil that I replace 1 month later because it burned 6 holes in the Conrad Dist Cap because the spark was to hot.) I put another stock coil on it. The mpg is rock solid at 25mpg if I drive it normal at freeway speeds, with a combine city/hwy mpg of 21. The tune up is now 4 years old and the truck is running fine, but I just don't feel like driving it as the TA gets 35 mpg on the freeway with the 6 speed.

I get 13-14 around town driving it semi agreesively, 19-20 on the highway driving with no boost. They are no Honda Civic and definately higher maintenance, it helps if you don't mind getting dirty and doing your own car repairts. Insurance isn't that bad, but I guess its all relative.

Why do I own one? They are fun to drive in straight line, lots of torque and don't attract a lot attention. You don't see them everywhere and in general the other owners are great. They are little more of a challenging to keep the engine running in perfect. AWD boost launch sure does help put a smile on the face when its working right :D

Re: All kinds of ?'s

On the long drive from Virginia up to Michigan,if I stayed out of boost, I was able to get 25 mpg. In town, though, it's hard not to spool up just to hear the turbo and watch the gauges. Then it's down to a more realistic 15 or so mpg. Like everyone says, these things are money pits. But if you don't mind the constant attention and maintenance, the boost launches and reactions from people who know make it all worth the effort. Oh, and you certainly need to be able to tune out the squeaks and clunks that won't go away and learn to listen for the ones that mean trouble. My Ty never stops squeaking.
