Why do we need alky?

I dont get it, I run in to this guy in an SRT4 tonight. He tells me he has heard a lot about me nad that everyone says that no one can beat me :rotf: So I tell him he wouldn't stand a flippin chance. He gets super cocky and says he knows he can take me out. So I ask him what he has done and he says list and tells me it runs at 25psi. I ask him if he has to run alky and he starts laughing and says hell no :oops: I have taken notice, that a lot of turboed cars, imports, american muscle cars, etc, run high boost and dont use it with no problems. What in the hell makes us so special? How do these guys get around it?

That's exactly what I want to know. I want to make my Ty faster (a conservative low 12s to 12 flat), but I don't really want to do the whole alcohol injection thing. Why does it seem like we require it and is there anything we can do to get around it?

:stupid: no offense fellas just sayin i dont get it either. i have friends with 3000gtvr4, stealth rttt, 300zx, lexus 2jz, supra and none of them have it either :rant:

Because we own Syclones and Typhoons, made by PAS... I thought it was obvious. :lol: :lol:

Actually, my completely uneducated guess would be due mostly to poor R&D when it comes to our trucks. Anything and everything we can do to decrease heat and the chances for detonation, the better.

To put it in perspective, our trucks run 14.7psi out of the gate, on a 4.3L V6 that wan't really designed for boost. The engines were only made for 3 years, with a decent, slightly inefficient IC system.

A good example of the flip side is the new Hyundai Genesis. One engine option is a 4cyl turbo that is reportedly designed to handle 29psi, right from the factory... The other turbo cars that don't need akly have the same R&D behind them. They've been backed by $$$ since their inception, with more than 7700 total cars produced.

But what do I know :dunno: It's late and I should go to bed so I can fight with advertisers again tomorrow. :lol:

Who said you need alky injection to run 12s or 11s? because you don't it just helps get you there easier with it's cooling effect and higher octane

Just think if that tool did alky injection and ran those boost levels he'd be gaining so much more hp I would think... the turbo buick guys love it like crack ask over on turbobuick.com and see what they say :)

we also have a much bigger stock turbo than most other cars. Plus we all put these stupidly big turbos on our trucks compared to the other guys upgrading to almost where we start out.

Put a bigger turbo....like gt35r or any 60 series turbo on any of the aforementioned cars....and i bet they're no longer able to run 25+psi w/o some help.

thats true with the motor thing too. prolly been talked about before but the search button is way up there at the top of the screen and im way down here at the bottom lol. whats the stock compression on these trucks?

Ask him again in 3mos if he's still running at all let along high boost. When people don't monitor anything they just keep turning up the knob and eventually... pop!

Aluminum heads designed for turbo specific purposes is a big help on the ricer cars. Most of them get by with a little higher octane help and no alky. Overall, their motors can disapate heat much better than our furnance motors.

Good thoughts everyone. I never really did ask this question even though I have thought about it 100 times. I am supposed to go look for this guy and run a full race this weekend but I think if I see him I see him. I may "look" when I get my controller back and figure out my EBC issue. Reminds me, I have to send that controller off :lol: Chance at Devilsown told me it can take 2-4 weeks for a return :(

I am in concurrence with the heat issue. Cast iron is okay at releasing heat, but nowhere near as effective as aluminum heads.

Wouldnt a small shot of nitrous have the same or similar effect? Just wondering. I run 25psi and pump gas on my motor.

Honestly, Its has surprised me that Evo peak at 20.5 psi stock from the factory and are able to run more boost than that on pump gas.

Knowing that many people don't bother Datalogging, it would surprise me if the SRT-4 was pinging. I don't know much about those cars at all.

What that guy didnt tell you is, that he is running bigger injectors like mopar stage 2 or 3's maybe even 750cc inj. a walboro fuel pump, and fuel return line. Also with the neone srt4's he probably spike 25psi and then falls to 19 or 20, unless he running a 50 trim or moddified stock turbo, which pretty much garanties he has bigger injectors.

I don't use Alky! I do have a custom kit set-up on my truck but haven't used it yet.

We have been 11.2/11.3 @ 120 mph with Stock Block, Stock Crank, Eagles, Vortec Ported heads, custom cam , Big Stuff 3, with GT35R Turbo with 16-17lbs of boost.

We think with the launching getting better we should be 11.0-10.9 on same boost with launching the truck.

Alky is good for turning the boost up and using as alternative to race gas and helping cool the air charge.
