Center cap key

I am looking for someone in CT in the danbury area with a key for the center caps on a ty, I need to get my wheels off to swap the turbo and the guy who sold it to me did not give me a key for it. If anyone is in my area if I can borrow your key, or if you have one you want to sell let me know. Thanks

Re: Center cap key

Your going to need to figure out which key design will work.... they are not all the same.

If you want a new one, contact McGard:

Re: Center cap key

I do know there is someone on here in your area. When I went back up there on vacation a little more then a year ago to see family I spotted a Ty and posted about it. And he chimed in. Can't remember who now though..

drill them out

Yup center punch them as close to dead center as possible and go to town with a left hand drill bit. If you're lucky, it will back itself out. But the metal is soft so you will probably end up fighting them tooth and nail. Ended up using the mill at work to get my bud's out...

We have a couple mills here at work I could drive a syty onto set the parking brake and start milling. HMMM didn't think of that.

. My bud was able to get the wheel off after he drilled the head off the lock. He just couldn't get what was left of the lock out of the rim.

Why not just have the new key made as suggested below?

Drilling them out is plan "B" ya see... I just hope that he doesn't pull the same stunt that another member did a few years ago and "swiss cheese" the the center cap to get access to the lugnuts. He drilled 1/4" holes all around the lock and busted the caps off

No I do not plan on doing that ^^^ I do plan on trying to get them off in one piece. I am going to call the guy and see if he has the key for them, he was talking about ti and said he had a key off a corvette that "kinda" fit, goot enough to get them off I guess. But he never gave it to me and I forgot about it. I am going to work on it today and see what I can get done. Thanks for the info.

One of my keys I have, actually says Corvette on a white label. The McGuard keys are the same as the 88-89 Corvette 17" wheel locks.

Flat blade screwdriver inserted into a portion of the 'pattern'. This one works pretty well, if they're not super-tight.

That worked for me.
