I had problems w/ the modded sy intermittently stalling completely... then the other day it stalled once and for all... no spark... we used the test light and narrowed the issue to either the module, cap/rotor, or pickup.... The pickup ohmed out fine. So, we changed the module and cap and rotor and it started finally... but we noticed during the procedure that the housing for the pickup was very rusty with chunks falling off and stuff... why? and why does it still run ok like that!?...Can you just buy the top of the distributor with the pickup housing or do you need to buy the whole distributor?

update...its not running ok and we noticed the magnet was missing peices ...one of the "tabs/arms" is altogether gone(rusted and fell off)...that must be bad right!?...source of my very crappy running sy u think?

Here's more details: Now it will start but it runs very ruff and stalls. Checked plug wires and firing order. Changed plugs, cap, rotor. ...checked with oem ignition and msd 6al --no change. Plugs were fouled and oil smells like it might be contaminated with gas. just put 4 gallons of 100lowllead shell in it right b4 tr4ouble started....that had sat in plastic container for 5 months beforehand.
...and the truck had sat about 4 months with half tank of 93/100ll mix in it....

The truck is a water/meth injected, 50#, pte52, stock motor, phil long chip truck, that's used alot in the summer and not much in winter. We have plenty of fuel pressure...but it seems(FP) to be acting erradicly. We have spark and fuel smell.

I guess we'll try adding fresh fuel and HEET, changing fuel filter, checking timing, and codes.... then maybe check injectors and maybe replace that ugly distributor.... ideas????

so far ideas include??: tan wire under dash, distributor magnet fubar, plug wires, intake gaskets, o2, map, wrong module ? timing?

You shouldnt have a problem finding a stock dist on here for sale for around $50 or so I think.. You just have to search, or ask people..
