Are clones a big problem these days?

SyTyless......for now!
Re: Are clones a big problem these days?

I get the GN motor thing all the time, along with the twin-turbo V8, etc etc. Also many ask why GM would make it AWD. Simply tell them that its got too much tq for only 2 wheels.

I`m surprised so many 18-25 year olds even know what a SyTy is.
A 20 year old parts guy at Auto Zone shocked me today. Said wow i`ve only seen 1 or 2 in my life. He knew all about them.

Im real glad to hear that people in the U.S.A. have no clue as to what a "Typhoon" or "Syclone" is! This past summer, I was asked many, many times "What kinda truck is that?" After I tell them, of course, They know all about that truck, "Its a V8!..Right?" Thats the truck with the GN engine..Right?" My favoritre question "Whos body kit is that?" Or the increadible statement.."Id smoke that in my 5.0." I even had one Jack a$$ tell me I bought it in Toronto than come back at me and tell me he know the guy who builds them, he makes them to order, whatever colour, whatever engine, whichever options! He would not beleve that it was made by PAS/GMC. I brought mine back from Lenexa KS. last Jan.

Re: Are clones a big problem these days?

one kid was explaining to me that my ty had the 3.8 gn motor in it...lol. i told him it was a 4.3 like 20 times and he still kept on sayingit was a 3.8. so i just went a long with it :rotf:

then one day i had the hood popped and he stopped in and was like..."this has a 4.3?!"
i was like yeah ive told you like 20 times but you never listened. so now everytime i see him he either wants to turbocharge his ranger or buy a sy  :rotf:

some people just never learn.

ive had only one person ask me if mine was real. most people either know what it is or think its just a jimmy. most thinkits a bravada. then they go crazy when they look inside and see my laptop inside. then thats wheni start getting crazy questions. one kid told he i must of had 10g's in the laptop to run it on my truck. i told him i didnt have that much in it. he said hes looked into putting his honda (key word ricers) on a laptop and he said it would cost at least 10g's :rotf: :rotf:

after that i just play along

Re: Are clones a big problem these days?

I have only had one person even recognize the Ty. All others, including people who have worked as mechanics forever, have no idea what it is.

I'll take that back. A good friend of mine is a master mechanic who knows what they are but has never been around one. Treated him to his first boost launch this weekend. He was pleased. So that's 2 that know what it is.

Oh, clones......I don't have an opinion on that. Seems that it wouldn't be very cost effective to do as I think has already been stated.

Re: Are clones a big problem these days?

I have been asked if my truck was real. I doubt many clones exist due to cost, but maybe the rumors exist because of people like me. I've told people my Ty was just a Jimmy with the Typhoon body kit in order to get races.

I rarely get anyone knowing what a Sy is, so I just play it off as an old xtreme, I dont really care what ricers think I have. Most car guys know of and respect them, I do get waves and thumbs up from time to time when I'm driving it. Probably other SyTy owners glad to see one that actually runs.

Most don't, but I've known what they were since I was 15 or 16. It's probably because my friend, who owns a Ty as well, was really into S-10's in high school. We were both pretty well cultured when it came to cars though and we were brought up to respect the older stuff. Most kids now aren't. :( I've told younger kids that it's like a WRX/Evo in SUV form. Then they ask if I take it off road/rally racing.

Im amazed too.The gangsta wannabee's around my area seem to know the whole story behind the Typhoon. Blows my mind. I guess because of the GN. Its like a high performance pimp mobile. I hope my pride and Joy never gets stolen.

Now some of us younger guys are responsible adults, we like SyTys and we pay to play, too. I had wanted one for years, when the time came I bought one. Most of the guys I run with were very much aware what they were aswell. I have never seen another in person except my own Syclone, and one Typhoon, and one SGT. Hopefully I'll be in The States for Nats this year.
