4l80e drive/propshaft length

according to many threads it seems that the shafts have to be 3,25" longer/shorter to fit the 4l80e. I had mine shortend/lengthend(??) 3.25" and now my propshaft is to long to fit in and the driveshaft seems a bit to short, since it almosts slides of the splines when installed.
i´d like to know if the driveshaft company which did mine fugged up: I would need the exact length of the stock drive/propshaft to find out if it was their fault, or if the 3.25" are the wrong value.
thanks for your help!

Yep. They scewed the pooch.

I'll take some measurements tomorrow. Front prop needed to be 3.25" longer. Rear driveshaft needed to be 3.25" shorter. Sounds like they went overboard in both directions.

thanks george! i somehow need to prove their mistake, in order to get them done again. cost me almost 400.-- to have them destroyed.

I don't understand how you have to prove the mistake. They should be able to tell exactly how much they actually added to the front prop and they should be able to tell you how much exactly they removed from the rear prop. If they can't do that then you can send them dimensions all day and it doesn't mean crap.

well, the bill states that they added/removed 3.25" per shaft, and the length they have now (930mm/810mm middle of the cardan joint)) - i need the exact original length to prove they removed/added to much.

I have my stock driveshaft still. I can take a full pic with measurements if you want the pics. Mt propshaft I gave to a member here a while back.

Re: 4l80e drive/propshaft length

the link gjp postet says 41,25" stock length for the driveshaft, wich equals in 1047.75mm
3,25" is 82.55mm
1047.75 - 82.55 = 965.2mm (38")
my bill states 930 mm wich is 35,2mm too short.

my propshaft (gilbert) now has 28 5/8 from eye to eye, fully collapsed - i would need the stock length.
thanks for the help!!

Re: 4l80e drive/propshaft length

That sure sounds like what they did. I know what they did. They got done with it. Next guy came along, saw the work order and did it again. That's the only excuse for those dimensions.

Re: 4l80e drive/propshaft length

you mean they added/removed 6.5" instead of 3.25" ? i think i can rule that one out, since the missmatch isn´t that big.
can someone confirm, that the stock driveshaft length is 41.25" from eye to eye?
and i would need the stock gilbert length, fully collapsed, from eye to eye!
thanks a lot for the help!!!

Re: 4l80e drive/propshaft length

Center of u-joint to center of u-joint for a Syclone rear driveshaft is:

Stock= 41.25"
80e=38"

Front propshaft:
Installed length 26.375" Edge of mounting flange on prop to edge of mounting flange on prop
Installed length 80e 29.625" outside Edge of mounting flange on prop to outside edge of mounting flange on prop.

All of that, compressed, extended stuff. That doesn't mean anything. You need to know the installed length for the front prop since it can move. This amount will vary based on prop design so it really does mean nothing. You just need the installed length.
On the rear driveshaft, You just need center of u-joint to center of u-joint because they reused your old yoke. That's not an issue. How they did it depends on what you told them. It really does sound like they did it twice. The 80e with adaptor plate is 3.25" longer. This would've made the rear driveshaft too long.....your is too short. This same 3.25" would've made the front prop too short....yours is too long....they did it twice man. Good luck getting it worked out. Your best bet at this point would be to take the truck there and have it done there. Now don't you wish you just ordered it from me?:rotf: I'm just kidding, I hope this helps.

Good luck, hopefully they will acknowledge what they did and get you straightened out.
