Serious about performance
A local friend of mine has a 4 bolt stock block unported vortec 412 cam Sy and I've got a stock motor with PT51 and we both have SMC alky and I did the chip tunes on both. How's that for a runon sentence. We both have fully built 700R4s with custom converters. He's got 17" ZR-1's with BFG DRs in the rear, I got a set of stock 16" wheels with all season radials that hook exceptionally well.
We ran into each other on the cruise strip and I sent him a text message: "LETS RACE!! OH SHIT! HAHAHA!" :lol: This would be our first race since he got his motor installed and tuned over the last year. He also just got his PT67 turbo repaired one day earlier. He's running 22 PSI, I'm running 23 PSI and the weather just dropped about 20*F tonight, down to 55*F. Perfect turbo weather..
Before we could get to our race destination in a remote area, we got stopped at a red light right before a freeway. I knew it would be "ON"!
The light changes and we're both at idle but I can see he's twitching the gas pedal, ready to strike. I stood on it and he immediately followed suit. The power came on hard & fast in 1st and exploded into 2nd and I look over and he's at least a length back there. I thought I got a small jump but not that big. He comes up by me after the race and says I was pulling on him too.
So by now I was really anxious to see what would happen when we raced on a longer road.. being that his Vortec/412 combo really shines over stock when it hits 3rd gear and the converter locks up (right about the same time mine is falling on it's face).
We get set and even manage a flagger. Both hands go up and we both are brake torquing the shit out of our trucks because we knew it would be a quick start. A 3rd Syclone joined our caravan on the way there and he's watching too. My truck is hissing and twisting and feels like it's trying to stand up and it sounds like his is doing the same. The flag comes down and my truck launches violently but hooking hard! I was across the intersection in a blink and I look out the back window and he's along side my tailgate and holding hard. I couldnt believe I got out on him like that (neither could he, as he told me later.) Right about the time I get into 3rd gear, I hear his truck getting louder and I look out the side window and see him coming up hard!!! Visions of LS1s I've raced come to mind! He goes screaming by me and finishes with at least a length and a half on me and a full head of steam, taking the win!!!
Afterwards we were all excited as hell, it was such a great race! Probably the best race me and him ever had since 5 years ago when we met and our trucks ran low 14s and mid 13s. The best part was the flagger said it was loud as hell and I can only imagine how cool it would have been to watch two Syclones unleashing a total of 1000HP and hearing 8 tires spinning!! I'd pay $100 for the video if someone could have been taping. What a race!
