Re: ne trip time and date

I might head to the Renz Motel as well, we'll see. It's about 7 hours to Detroit for me as well - and 3 hours north to Renz's place - but hangin with the guys sounds like a good night. Waiting to hear if Dad's going or not - if he goes I'll probably be a late Friday arrival in DET because he'll have to work Friday.

Renz - shortbus, STi, or other? I'll probably take the Saabaru if I still have it till then, I'll have room for others. I flew to Nats in '03 IIRC, and not having my own wheels killed me - but I'm a control freak. If I sell the Saab till then I'll probably have the Dakota and might just leave it at Casa Renz and ride with someone, it's not really a longhaul vehicle.

I can't honestly believe it'll be faster to go through customs twice as opposed to driving around Lake Michigan, but what do I know. :dunno:

no clue. I should really get the shortbus inspected before driving it.

If there are enough people wanting to go to detroit as a passenger then i'd consider taking the short bus. But i'm in no way footing that gas bill myself :rotf: The thing gets like 8mpg filled w/ people - so if you have like 8+ people in it its worthwhile.

Though there is a tiny chance i'll take the other typhoon out...w/ a big for sale sign on it.

Zero chance on that. It's gonna take all I can give just to get it ready for Nats in September. It's still a salvage title, so once I get it back together I have to apply for a title change, and that takes a while. I could trailer it out but what's the point if I can't drive it out there?

There is an outside chance that I could take dad's Ty, I haven't run that by him yet. (And it's a dog...)

Ahhh, didn't know your situation. Bringing your dad's truck would be cool though, even if you don't race it!

Okay...with some trepidation, looks like there's a very good chance I will be driving my truck. But first, a few questions:

a. What time is everyone planning on departing Casa de Renz on Friday morning? (there's virtually no way I can leave Philly area until Friday morning, so if y'all left at 9 am for example, I could probably get to State College in time to caravan)

b. I have the "typical" Ty 65 mph shake. (There's a local guy (who I haven't met yet) who worked on Bravada drivetrains for GM and claims he could fix it. But I won't get over there before the 22nd.) Question: Am I creating a big problem driving it with the shake for long distance?

c. Aside from what Dennis K is carrying in his truck  , what "back-up" items are a must? I have original hoses (factory), so I'm likely to bring spares, event tho' currents feel fine. I have a spare prop shaft....bring it? What else??

d. My passenger seat is available if anyone wants to ride shotgun and help with gas.

e. Edit, one more: What's the best way (temporary fix) to protect from "bug spray" on the front of the truck? Is there a film that I could apply for the ride?

you can spray the front of the truck with WD-40 if you dont mind rewaxing, what I usually do it give the car a fresh wax job the day before, and a good glazing and 99% will wash off.

I'll be leaving my house at 6 a.m. to get there by 9. I'll be driving non-stop...so make sure the bathroom is free when I get there...and have it stocked with car magazines. :rotf:

What's quicker...turnpike through harrisburg or northern route around Allentown (via Northeast extension) ?

rt 80 has a lot of construction on it, so i'd prolly stick to the turnpike. I think the turnpike is torn up just before harrisburg, but you won't be in it too much.

Thanks. They're probably still working on that big mountain pass (?) project on the road from Harrisburg to SC? I'll hit that at about 7:30 am and hopefully miss the major bottleneck.
