What the hell happened?!?

Last night I was sitting in the driveway fiddling with the tune on the ty. After sitting with the truck running for ~35 minutes, I heard a light pop followed by the LOUD hiss of my A/C unit discharging. The strange thing is that it came out of the interior vents.

Anything have this happen to them before? Any ideas on what let go and where to get started in finding the problem?

Re: What the hell happened?!?

If it was in your interior, then it's your evaporator core (inside the box on the firewall).

Why on earth that would let go, unless you had a pressure spike, is beyond me

Re: What the hell happened?!?

If you were running at idle for that long (no air moving over the rad. and cond. core) reduced air flow can raise the temps. / pressure to the point of popping the saftey blow off valve on the back of the compressor. Now if the evap. core popped due to a pressure / heat spike, several things have had to go wrong. Your ((stock?) rad. fan clutch is shot and not moving enough air or you had the elec. fan off for the temp / pressure to climb in the A/C system (not realy the coolant temp. but the A/C cond. core temp (Several things are involved with that alone like outside temp., humidity etc.)? If that is indeed the cause then the saftey valve should have vented instead of blowing the core out but those damn valves have been know nto stick / be faulty and not open on overpressure (I think GM had a T.S.B. years ago on that) and or last and very likely, your cond. core is rotted and just let go. You will know if you pull it.

If the core blew, I'm sorry man cause it's a pain.

Yeah, it about literally scared the crap out of me.

Can't chuck the system due to Texas heat + we drive it every weekend and I have a 1.5 year old.
