heads up NJ -Lasers are out

Lately I have been doing alot of travelling on the GSP, Rt 78, Rt 287 between Bergen and Somerset counties.

I have been "checked" twice by laser compliments of the NJ State Police while cruising at 70 MPH. (Once on the GSP and once on Rt 78)

Both times thay have not come after me. -Guess they are waiting for a bigger offender?

Just a reminder than your radar detector is rendered obsolete with this new technology.

:(

Happy motoring.

I thought laser was one of the signals the newer radar detectors could pickup?

They have been around for years, but they were pulled from use for awhile because of the legality of using them. It seems the manufacturer has proven its accuracy and therfore are back in use.

I do recall their weakness is precipitation, apparently they are not as effective when it rains.

It seems to me that "laser detection", means that you are being notified that you are being "hit" that's about it.-also some of the newer SUV's brake lights will trigger the laser detector because of the light it emits. Weird -and annoying.

I'm seeing troopers along the Prkwy parked perpendicular to the traffic, more visible, and not in there usual locations. Are these guys using laser?

Probably -they have to pop you less than 1000 yards- as per the NJ courts.

Don't remember them being pulled, but like any other technology they have to be proven in court, have been for a while, because the sc%m b%g defense atttorneys try every little trick. You are correct about rain, it will still work but the distance will be decreased that you can pick up the vehicle. Accuracy does not change.

Thats not surprising. State Police has not been using any refined radar technology in a while. I did not see laser when I worked for them 5 years ago. Kudos and welcome to the 21st century njsp. As for the lase technology, its advisable to make sure you have plenty of time to get to your destination. Its too narrow a beam to give anyone ample warning of its presence. I know that if I get a ticket with the fines and insurance penalties, I will be riding the bus thereafter. Its not a cool thing.....

I got popped again w/laser on the GSP Passaic county. Funny thing is I saw them well before they pulled the trigger. (gotta love that 1000 feet)

I saw at least 4 troopers between Essex and Bergen counties. Most with "customers". :)
