Dual intank fuel pumps?

Re: Dual intank fuel pumps?

I came across an add for dual tank setup on the SyTy's.....but they don't make it anymore. So one of the big GN vendors gave me Red Armstrong's contact information.....said that if I supplied him with a hanger.....that he would probably build me a setup.

I haven't called him yet though...was planning on doing so shortly. Can let you know what I find out if you like.

Nolan had a write-up of how to do this with the stock hanger and pick up. There might be something on here with pictures.

Re: Dual intank fuel pumps?

I recently installed a walbro and when I took my old pump out it was pumps, plural. My understanding was it was an old ATR set up that ran 2 190l pumps. The second one was wired to a hobbs switch on the manifold that triggered it at 10psi of boost. Kind of hard to tune for so I went to one big one instead.

I'd be interested in seeing the Nolan write up if it could be found........

Re: Dual intank fuel pumps?

I've had an ATR double-pumper since '94. Works great.

A dual setup with twin 255 HP pumps would be a great item for one of the vendors to offer...

i took the bed off of my syclone and noticed that the feed line was pinched..

good thing i plan on replacing that setup.

Re: Dual intank fuel pumps?

ATR made the double-pumper for years and many of us on the board have used them. The one I had was a twin 255 HP and a hobbs switch to trun on the second one @ 18psi. It worked great and no real tuning problems as the pressure regulator still controls the pressure. I've replaced it with a large external single for only one reason...

If you are at high boost and one would happen to quit, you would be in a bad position to run lean instantly. With a large single if it quit it would just like shutting off the fuel. I have had a fuse blow on one of my dual pumps and realized how easy it would be to take out a motor.

No pictures, the links to the website are not working any more. I'm sure there are pictures somewhere. This doesn't solve the problem of one pump dying and taking out your motor if it goes lean. Depending on your build, you may not even need dual pumps.

I have dual external Walbro set up that i was planning on running on my truck and plans changed just a little so it's sitting on my shelf with all kinds of other really cool parts. Mike i'll make you a smoking deal on them if you are interested.

ps - i like external pumps better - much easier to fix on the side of the road.

Which single pump are you running now?

IIRC, Nolan was telling me about a way that you could setup the dual pumps so that if one went, the other would shut off as well. Or am I smoking crack?

Lotsa ways around this... pressure sender fed to ECM such that, at WOT, if FP < some number, shut down boost/fuel/timing...

This is something we've discussed implementing with the new code.

Could actually do it with external wiring too, no voltage on the second pump at WOT
(TPS = 5v) opens the ignition circuit...

Re: Dual intank fuel pumps?

how much hp will the dual atr support? i have one,but it still feeds both pumps through the same 3/8ths line. seems like a bottleneck to me. i was going to use a 8 a n adapter fitting to 16mm to at least have larger lines but all that is made, that i could find is a 6 a n, to a 16mm.
