Heater Hose ???

Is there any purpose for the heater hose running to the radiator? (stock setup). Or is it possible to remove that hose connect it to the capped water pump port, and cap the remaining outlet in the radiator?

Thank guys,
Adam

Re: Heater Hose ???

No purpose...if you don't need the heater. But seriously, I have my IC lines routed through my heater core in my Sy, so I eliminated the hose you're talking about & capped the rad. port w/ a thick rubber cap & hose clamp. No leaks yet.

Re: Heater Hose ???

Yeah you can do that. You would want to cap the intake manifold port and radiator and drain the heater core. (the water pump doesn't directly pump the heater core)

Me being picky again:roll: ; Depends what you mean by "directly." The water pump "sucks" on the pas side of the rad which also has the heater plumbed into it so the WP is sucking (more accurately "circulating") the heater water from the manifold ahead of the t-stat. The t-stat is bypassed so as soon as the water begins to warm the heater will produce some heat.

The answer to the question is it doesn't matter, either connection will accomplish the same thing.

Re: Heater Hose ???

Well what about us that need to keep the heat? could you just take the heater core line from the radiator and run it to the unused or plugged port on the water pump and have the same effect?

We may have posted at the same time. Yes is the answer. The advantage would be to loose the weird ell where the heater goes into the rad.

Re: Heater Hose ???

is that the top line on the radiator. I want to eliminate that. its close to my intake.

Not sure what you mean by "top line." My Sy has only three water hoses: bottom rad, pas side to water pump. Top rad driver side from engine. And the heater line about 1/3 down pas side. That's the one under discussion. That would have to be caped and re-plumbed into the water pump. My stock, original, water pump has no plug (for a fitting) that I can see to accept that line. I'd bet most aftermarket pumps have a fitting.

Re: Heater Hose ???

thats the one Don. My new water pump has a fitting on top. Not sure if the core would cycle water from watterpump to intake??? Then I would have to find a way to cap the radiator off. My cobra head hits the hose.

What I meant by 'directly' is that some SBC & 4.3 waterpump's have extra port on them (usually would goto the heater core). I interpreted the original post as he thought it the heater core connect to the water pump. I have no idea on the actual flow of the port on those water pumps.

Re: Heater Hose ???

If the water pump has a fitting, it goes to the suction side of the pump which is correct if you want to move the heater hose from the pas rad to the water pump . Leave the hose that goes to the manifold alone.

I believe you can buy hose "caps" at the auto parts which would stick out beyond the rad fitting little more than 1/4 in.

Thanks Don. Sorry to hijack but I did not want to post new topic when this was so close to what I was looking at today. Thanks

Yea I just noticed that sorry

Yea basically it's the "S" hose that originally ran under the battery tray which is the line that you want to plumb into the waterpump correct? My stock pump doesn't have any provisions for this but the edelbrock that renz sold me does so I plan on going this route.. now I have to find out what fittings I need to go braided :)
