Ported WG

Since I have a 3" DP coming and I'm gonna have the turbo off to remove the "plug." How difficult is it to port the WG? Does anyone have any pics? It almost looks like I could remove the plug with the turbo on the truck. Does that work? Otherwise I could destroy my Sy budget and buy jwaller's already modded rebuilt turbo.

Thanks

Re: Ported WG

Waller's modded unit will be better for many different reasons. I know you like to do stuff on your own like most of us but Waller's turbo will be a good buy after you look at the time and "little extras" involved. Performance wise, it's a great deal for the dollar.

Re: Ported WG

I agree don. Unless you want that 12 with a "Stock turbo" I would go with a walter one. I have only read good things about them. I would do it if I was you.

Re: Ported WG

:rotf: Why did I think that was the answers I would get? I do stuff on my own that I can do. To be honest, porting a turbo isn't one of them.

Thanks guys...

Now, does someone want to come put my truck back together?

Re: Ported WG

if you have a die grinder and a good grinder bit, porting the wastegate is a breeze.

the best laymen description i can give is this....the air exiting the exhaust manifold enters the turbo exhaust housing and has to make a SHARP (almost 90 degree) turn, to get to the WG. what your trying to do is grind that edge down to more of a curve/radius.

when you get the exhaust housing off of the truck you'll be able to see clearly what needs to be removed/smoothed. it doesn't need to be perfect, as anything would be better than what we have.

wallers offers this service at a very resonable price and he does a great job.

Re: Ported WG

How do you post pictures? I ported mine and from the looks of what i've seen i can tell you it will do better for boost control and airflow.

Re: Ported WG

i used mmp142965's photos for examples to look at. the areas circled in red are places to focus on. the outside areas were port matched to the exhaust manifold for better flow and the area in the center is blended for better wastegate control.
