Good info Don, that's pretty much a standard, through out the summer months I used to always tell people their good to 2/32nd, winter 4/32nds is the furthest I would go. It's just not worth risking your life over a 1/16 of an inch of rubber.

I agree, but most people want to get as much as they can out of tires. I work at a Buick, Pontiac, GMC dealership and unless they need them they dont buy them. Also most people dont understand tires very much either.

I can't tell you how many times someone would come in and think you were trying to screw them into buying tires because when they looked at them they were fine or atleast the outside 1/4 was, but they neglected to get their ass under the car and see that their camber and toe had been out for months now and completely eaten the inside away.

Then you get the standard excuse of "well I didn't know?" how many times I just wanted to say something to the effect of "last time I checked ignorance isn't an excuse."

I change them when the air wont stay in anymore  .

One of my favorite things to do for passing the time while driving is to look at the inflation of other vehicles tires...yeah, its a little wierd but there are worse things I could be doing while driving. Its alarming once you start paying attention to how many vehicles on the road are riding around with tires that are half flat (or worse) at ~75mph and the driver is completely oblivious. Its the norm to see one or two low tires but on a regular basis I see a vehicle with ALL four tires with ~15lbs in them....and these are usually mini vans or SUVs (read: not light weight).

Classic one I'll never forget was a chic on a cell phone passing me in the free way (I was doing 70+ mph) with a herd of kids in the back and both tires on the passenger side were almost completely flat   . Dunno how long they had been that way or how far she was travelling but Im guessing that if she didnt make it to her destination the tire manufacturer and/or vehicle manufacturer heard from her lawyer shortly after the wreck  .
