Testing a blow off valve?

So I had a blow off valve installed on my Typhoon that another forum member bought from me, and he says that it doesn't work for him. Is there a way to test these without actually mounting it on the truck? Maybe force some air into it somehow? Its already bolted to the up-pipe and he said he has the vaccume line going to the intake so it should be hooked up right. Not sure what the problem would be?

What kind is it? So will open slightly under vac which is normal. Some ppl think something is wrong when they see this as it sounds like a leak. What happens is that under manifold vac the spring is at minimum tension and the turbo is actually building a little boost in the intake pipe because the TB plate is closed down. Normally if you hear a leak at idle it is actually air escaping the air intake not leaking in.

Some over tighten the spring when they experience this which only causes the blowoff to not work properly under full boost.

Its a TurboXS bov. I didn't know they were adjustable, I never took it apart or anything. I was just curious if there was any way to test it besides having it mounted on the truck. There isn't much to them, so there really isn't anything that would break.

I have the same one on my AWD. I did put a shim washer in mine to adjust it for high boost levels (25 lbs plus). Other than that it works great!

mightyvac brake bleeder will work , they even say wastegate testing as an option on the back of the package . most autoparts stores will have them

i have a hand wac pump can u tell what to do to test the blowoff valve with it?

Re: Testing a blow off valve?

hook it up , pump until it reaches desired psi or it may be in hg on the dial .6 hg is roughly 20 psi .

it will open the wastegate/blowoff once pressure reaches the base setting

well a blow off valve works under boost right and if there is boost then there is no vacume right or not?

Re: Testing a blow off valve?

It uses spring pressure to keep it closed, well a single port BOV/wastegate does anyways. Upon the the throttle plate closing and vaccuum entering the BOV it opens it.

There are some check valves and shit on the syty vac harness. Make sure the guy has it T'eed into something directly off the manifold, not further down the harness. Also, it will not work if it's tied into the vac lines on the turbo for operating the wastegate. It needs to be tied into somehwere AFTER the throttle body and not with some fancy check valves on it.

what i said earlier was close , just switch it to pressure from the vac setting it usually comes as .

on my edelbrock intake rear port , that may not help you though .lol

Is there a check valve on that vac line that goes to the fuel pressure reg? I can't recall off hand. If so, there's your problem. I used that front intake port as I knew there were no restrictions in the line.

Re: Testing a blow off valve?

when i first put on my Tial BOV it wouldn't work T'd into the line to the fuel pressure regulator think i tryed it on that one first, i ended up finding a different line of the front of the manifod to T into, cant remember witch one but worked fine after that, i bet it works just need to find different vac source, realy not much can go wrong with a BOV
