I can't find out where the ignition/ key sense wire goes. Can someone give me a complete rundown from the starter solenoid for the starter. how many and where do they go? Please help ASAP.

Could anyone tell me. I only have the syty manual and can't find the ignition power wire. Anybody?

I'm not quite understanding your question... the Sy manual has all the wires at the starter in the schematics section on page 33 at the back of the book.

If you're asking about the actual 'key sense' wiring, they are 'light green' and 'tan' coming out of the steering column. Tan comes from the door jamb switches, light green goes to the convenience center.

Re: Rear mount battery setup.

If I understand, I think what you need is three things assuming that all you're doing is putting a bat in the bed. You need a bat cable from the + on the bat to the starter. You need a good heavy wire (10g will work) from the starter to the alt. And you need a good ground at the bat to frame and engine to frame. Maybe that's 4. :rotf: Good solid properly done wire ends are an absolute necessity.

If you want to meet NHRA rules it gets more complicated.

Re: Rear mount battery setup.

ive ran power from the remote battery location to the solinoid on the firewall from there it goes to the single wire starter. there is a purple 18ga wire coming out of the main harness to the small pole on the top of the solinoid but im not sure where the ignition power is because there is no power to the truck. any help?

What activated the solenoid? Assuming this is a "after market starter type solenoid" Run a 10g wire from the bat side of the solenoid to the alt. If that doesn't work I'm afraid I can't help without seeing the truck.

Re: Rear mount battery setup.

The "power to the truck" is at the rear of the alternator. 2 fuse links that become 2 red wires that disappear into the harness. You must have 12V battery power at the rear of the alternator, at all times.

Don has mentioned this twice, now.

You sure it isn't 12ga? A 12ga pur wire is the start signal to the solenoid or starter. Hot w/ key in 'start' position, shifter in P/N.

The only 18ga pur wires I can think of in the eng harness are the brake-power to the TCC and the BPMV. And 5V sensor power to TPS and MAP.

Yep.It is the "thickest" purple wire in the harness.I replaced mine with 10 ga aboot 8 years ago and have had no probs.

Thank you very much, to all that helped out and very quickly I might add. The truck should be making it first start up tomorrow. I cant wait.
