Why is the ignition systems in these vehicles so bad?

its old school technology that wears out quickly. we have hot manifolds that melt plug wires. The caps/rotors get a lot of buildup in them quickly. Spark plugs we have to use burn out quickly.

The 4.3L V6 cap is too small for our application.

maybe we need to vind a v12 dist. that works..lol

Physically their is size limitation ot how big of a distributor fits behind our upper intake manifold. The ideal solution is distribution ignition for our woes, but it's pricy.

Title says it all, everyone complains about them...what makes them bad?

Another thing to keep in mind, these trucks were built to run mid 13's. The stock ignition works fine for that, and much further. There's plenty of trucks running 11's on stock stuff, which is WAY more then GM ever designed these parts to do....

The ignition was designed for a 16-17 sec truck.

I've had numerous blazers throughout the years, and have never had a problem with the ignition. Coming onto this board, it seems everyone has something bad to say about them. It sounds like when PAS did all the mods to make these things quick, the stock GM ignition simply couldn't keep up?

The boost blows out the weak spark.. In a n/a 4.3 there is no boost to blow the spark out so even an ignition system in sad shape will work well.

Our application requires every part of the ignition to be 100% for things to work right.

what else is new?

sub standard transmissions, front suspension, steering etc etc. This truck looks good and runs good from time to time but overall it's operating beyond it's designe ability :D

That said, it was made in 1991/2/3 so things have changed. Learn to love it and you'll be much happier :D

I also never had any problems, you just need to take your time when routing wires etc
