I used to run straight 30wt Rotella with a 1/2 a bottle of GM oil additive in my turbo T/A. It was recommended for 301T's by Pontiac - from what I read single weight oils are supposed to have better resistance to coking in the turbo lines under extreme heat. I hadn't heard about the ashing/detonation problem but if you're running meth injection it'll probably take care of that.

my brother runs it in his turbo mustang and hasn't had any issues.. it was also suggested by a known good engine builder to him as well

I thought most of the 15w40 wt oil were for either/or gas, diesel fuel...not just for diesel.

I recently changed my oil to Rotella 15w40, and as luck would have it, its down to around freezing now. I'm slightly concerned since my truck has had a knock for some time, but on the plus side, the pressure stays at a good level when it's heated up. I think some other members on here are using Rotella with some good results.

I’m staying far AWAY from ILSAC GF-4 spec oil on all my vehicles. Other oils that don't have the crappy spec are Mobil 1 0w-40, German Castrol 0w-30 and most racing oils. All other synthetics such as Mobil 1 5-30 and 10-30 have the ILSAC GF-4 spec which is not good.
Its good stuff and better than most oils on the shelf these days!

Delo is another good oil.
I disagree that our engines won't benefit with higher ZDDP. Its not just for the camshaft, its for the whole engine which includes main and rod bearings. Many engine builders are seeing added wear with the newer oils on the shelf which includes roller engines. I know a company that specializes and builds engines/transmissions for DSM's and they have switched to Rotella in the last year because they have seen lots of wear in the 4g63 even though it has roller lifters. The excess wear includes main and rod bearings.
Mobil 1 chart that shows levels of all their oils:

you need to go to turbobuick.com and search under the name a2000rich he is the guy that makes/owns zddp plus and has spent a ton of money on oil research or the last few yrs. He is a big time turbobuick nut aswell. He has all of the doccumetion on oil tests all the way back to 87 oils when the sm oil was the better oils.
The zplus additive put the zinc levels in newer oils abck to what the oil had in them back in 87.
The guys's name is richard clark and he live about 40 mins away from me.
Another thing that zinc helps is wrist pin wear.

I was always told you use it for an engine break in if you are running a solid cam. The 15w40 has more nutrients in it than regular oil. Run it for the break in period and then switch the oil to regular or synthetic.
