Re: My budget LQ4/4L80E build!

i wanted more power than i was making. so i turned up the boost knowing that it was going to be come a ticking time bomb. going with forged pistons and rods, arp main studs and head studs. Run around 12ps. looking for 650 at the wheels. the seat of the pants feel just didnt compare to my friends s10 so i had to change something. should be up and running again in 2 weeks. my 4l80e will be the next thing to go probably. gonna see how far i can push the a stock one.

the motor lost 5 and 7. here are some pics

should have stayed at 460rwhp at 7.5psi i guess :rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf:

Re: My budget LQ4/4L80E build!

i am thinking i will be low 10's with drag radial on the new motor. i never made it to the track with the old setup be my scan gauge said 11.3 with zero traction at the start.

anyone think there might be a 9.xx in my future?

I think i would work a lot more on tuning especially if your going to have high quality high price parts in there to destroy. Detonation destroyed those pistons.

And all this talk about that I am a hater,,just have to say I warned you so,sorry that it blew up though.

Some people here think I talk out of my a$$, I call it experience & knowledge.

Next time w/forged internals it should stay together, goodluck.!

I have a pic of the new Edelbrock LS1 intake for much better power on my cell phone & on my computer, just don't know how to post it here. Anyone????So far there are only about 10 made so far & my friends shop is getting the first batch of them.

Only thing,I do not think it will fit under the hood of a Sy/Ty ,full size trucks it should,it looks really nice, like a tunnel ram.

I thought Parish's truck ran low 10's best time???

That it was a heavier truck than your Sy I believe???

If you swap over to better flowing heads it would be easyier to do (L92's),but you can still get into the 9's

Here is my friends shop that is well respected on LS1 truck forum & LS1 tech forum
http://www.proheads.com/
He can CNC your heads,or can exchange your heads as a core.

Where you will get one of the most gains of power will be from your cylinder heads.

They also get massive flow out of there All Pro heads.

Rick

yes you did. but it did run with 7psi for like 2months and only went when i bumped it up to 9psi.

it probably would have lasted longer but the motor was blowing oil from the exhaust screwing up the afr readings. I mean like there was white smoke coming out all of the vbands, header flanges and out the exhaust. i had never see under the heads or the cylinders before be i would be willing to bet that the rings were going.

parish's truck had like 1050rwhp. i think that makes up for the extra weight

Re: My budget LQ4/4L80E build!

Yea the oil messes with the af ratio reading because the oil instantly lowers the octane of your fuel by a huge margin. If you had that much oil going into the cylinders it would be like running some skunky old 87 octane gas. I dont know that the oil was coming up past the rings in the first place, but after some detonation cracks the ring lands in the pistons it will blow by quite a bit

They probably warped alittle when I welded them. I was very disappointed in the thickness of the flanges I bought. I am going to use gasket sealer on them when I put it back together.

Re: My budget LQ4/4L80E build!

where'd you buy the flanges from? ebay? If you were dissappointed with them why did you use them, rather than just return them and find what you like?

I admire your speed/determination...but there's a difference between working quickly, and rushing things. If you aren't careful your "budget" build is going to become a "bailout" build. ;)

i got them for the same place i got all of my tubing. they are made by clamp co. which is a popular brand. i didnt return them because i had heard that other brands have the same thicknesses. if i were to do it again i would have used a tig instead of a mig for better control of the heat. I am also no professional welder.

One thing is that i dont think that i am working quickly or rushing things. Things have been done so fast because i was putting in a solid 6 hours of work on the truck everyday after work and working on it all weekend.

i am taking the block to the machine shop right now. maybe have a short block again by the end of next week.
